Three-term Sen. Joe Lieberman trailed in early returns Tuesday, struggling to overcome a tough primary challenge and escape payback from his own party for supporting the Iraq war.
Six years after Democrats backed him for vice president, Lieberman was trailing with 44 percent, or 25,596 votes, to political novice Ned Lamont's 56 percent, or 32,840 votes, with 19 percent of precincts reporting.

"I think he can, and I think he will, elect to be seated as a democrat."Nope. Not before the November election, anyway.
He can't be both a Democrat and an Independent. So as long as he runs as an Independent, the Dems are down a Senator.

I've read that Joe Schwarz is trailing in Michigan (Yahoo News), but have been unable to find vote totals.

The other little benefit behind a Lamont narrow win in this primary will be that Lieberman has a good chance of winning as an Independent and get reelected to the Senate but will go back mad as hell that his former party sold him out.

I purposely said "elect to be seated" as a democrat. I think he can do that.

But, deport, can a write-in run if he also voted in the March primary?

I think Gore should be ashamed tonight. I don't think he knows the meaning of the word, but I think he should be anyway.
He thinks Lieberman is good enough to get him Jewish votes for Vice President, but not good enough to beat an inexperienced millionaire for CT senator.

Saying he's an independent and strong on national security.
Lambasting nasty partisanship that has attacked him.
Saying his site was hacked.

I'm watching it live on C-Span. He's firing a few shots at the nutroots who hacked his website and clearly trying to attract GOP voters.
