The FBI has issued an urgent nationwide alert for 11 Egyptian students who entered the United States last week but failed to show up for their courses at Montana State University.
An FBI advisory says there are, at present, no known connections to any terrorist group but that the students are to be "approached with caution" and taken into custody. They "are here illegally and wanted for questioning," the advisory says.
The advisory comes just over a month before the five-year anniversary of the September 11 terror attacks on the United States.
"This is of very serious concern and is being closely tracked," said Rep. Peter King (R-NY), Chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee.
The FBI says the Egyptians arrived at John F. Kennedy Airport in New York on July 29 and disappeared. The advisory says the alert is nationwide but that there is specific concern the Egyptians may be on the Eastern Seaboard.
According to the advisory the 11 missing Egyptians are:
1. Ibrahim, El Sayed Ahmed Elsayed; DOB OF 4/29/1986.
2. El Dessouki, Eslam Ibrahim Mohamed; DOB OF 02/21/1985.
3. El Bahnasawi, Alaa Abd El Fattah Ali; DOB OF 04/02/1986.
4. Abd Alla, Mohamed Ragab Mohamed; DOB OF 02/15/1984.
5. El Laket, Ahmed Refaat Saad El Moghazi; DOB OF 09/01/1986.
6. El Ela, Ahmed Mohamed Mohamed Abou; DOB OF 02/02/1985.
7. El Moghazy, Mohamed Ibrahim Elsayed; DOB OF 08/08/1986.
8. Abdou, Ebrahim Mabrouk Moustafa; DOB OF 02/25/1984.
9. El Gafary, Moustafa Wagdy Moustafa; DOB OF 07/01/1988.
10.Maray, Mohamed Saleh Ahmed; DOB OF 09/12/1985.
11.El Shenawy, Mohamed Ibrahim Fouaad; DOB OF 08/12/1988.

I have the worst blinding headache and anything I typed that John says about those students probably wouldn't make a bit of sense. All I want to know is if the FBI is truly so inept that they aren't releasing photographs.
Right. Someone kidnapped a whole van-load of Egyptians headed for "college." ;)

Don't worry about it, Peach. Put your feet up and take care of your pounding head. As for the FBI not releasing those photos....I don't understand it either. I've been trying to think of one good reason why they wouldn't release them, but I can't think of one.
Yes, I was but even if he wasn't terrific, I think I'd go back. He's so much fun to talk with and doesn't mind if he doesn't sound PC (which is refreshing in itself).
Also, he's no spring chicken and the young girls who work at the hairdressers have come to work in various stages of liberal thinking disorder or disinterested in politics.

Oh Peach, I'm sorry you have a headache.
But like everyone here on this thread, I somehow doubt it, and I am uneasy. I would be especially uneasy of I lived in NYC.
If these students are Muslim "twelvers" who believe the Madhi is about to return on the 22nd of August, there is very good reason to be uneasy. I also think that the US Embassy in Egypt has provided belated back channel info. on these students that has made the FBI go public in their hunt for these students, so they won't take maximum flack after the case might explode into tragedy.
The BIG MISTAKE?
No release of visa photos, which the University must have on all visa applications which had been processed prior to granting the visas.
Non-release of the photos make this appear to be an FBI CYA operation.
My point exactly. Flying into JFK is good if you want to have some bogus excuses about not making your flight, or if you wanted to blend in (easier in NYC than Denver). Claiming that you had trouble on your connection gives the bad guys some 36 to 48 hours of lead time, before anyone notices they're gone.

Precisely. These guys (unless this isn't their first trip) are in a strange country- totally different culture etc. PLUS- they're young...
If they don't show up within the next 5-7 days..it can't be a good sign.

John Fund up to discuss. He thinks it's very serious. Charges of bribery and getting visas from overseas consulates. Students visas now revoked so they are illegal.
Fund just says it's likely they will be spotted somewhere.

YAAY = here it is. WSJ on to comment about it. Ongoing investigation about bribery on state level visas.....he says this shows we have security problems (DUH) Talking about screening people properly....STILL NO MENTION OF PICTURES
