SEOUL (Reuters) - A former U.S. cabinet member who has held discussions with North Korean officials in the past over the North's nuclear ambitions may be planning a fresh trip to Pyongyang, Yonhap news agency reported on Tuesday.

Richardson had been in discussions with the North Korean mission to the United Nations in New York about the visit, Yonhap cited the source as saying.

Richardson was unlikely to travel as an official U.S. envoy, the source said, but added that he had acted as a conduit for the Bush administration before.

Seriously, are you communicating to me from Cuba. Don't you know the difference between me telling you to go to your room and you saying the government should restrict someone's freedom of movement. My page shows that I have the same objections to overbearing government that the founders have. That is not an anti-government bias. It is a constitutional orientation.

Is the UN doing the asking, or the No. Koreans? From the article : "Richardson had been in discussions with the North Korean mission to the United Nations in New York about the visit, Yonhap cited the source as saying."

Richardson seems to have the attitude that HE is the one and only conduit to the No. Koreans from the US. I gather that there has been no request from either the US or the UN for his meddling.

Well, here's my tin foil theory for what it's worth. Both Richardson and Jesse Jackson have had remarkable success in dealing with third world countries (getting hostages released, etc.). I ask myself why that would be.

It seems to me that rogue nations are entirely too welcoming to these guys, and it isn't because of their personalities.

I believe when they see one of these situations, they get in because they are known to "bring gifts". I am convinced that Jackson makes quite a tidy sum from arranging illegal arms shipments, and I wonder if Richardson has the same scam going.

It's almost guaranteed that Richardson has SOME scam going....he learned at the feet of the masters, the Clintons, along with Sandy Burglar and others. The state of New Mexico dems are in furious competition with the state of Louisiana for having the most corrupt state government for the longest period of time, and Richardson is sitting right on top of it. Cedar Dave is much better at summarizing this than I am.

I agree with your theory.

Thanks for the ping greyfoxx39!

I wonder how much more this is going to directly cost the taxpayers of New Mexico.

Last time he went, he 'negotiated a deal' wherein the taxpayers of NM are providing food, fuel and cash to NK as well as a 'technical exchange program'

So far NK has sent some doctors to to either train us or learn the latest cardiac surgery techniques; (he wasn't clear who was teaching who, only that they came); No word on what technical assistance Richardson has given them, although as sheik yerbouty said (tongue in cheek?) I wouldn't be a bit surprised if he were actually correct.

Sorry, I don't have a link on this to provide.... It was something I heard him say in a broadcast interview just about exactly one month ago, and I haven't been able to fined it documented, although there have been a few printed articles vaguely hinting at it.

In that interview he also said ~~ 'If Bush would just do the same kind of things, North Korea would be absolutely no problem'.~~

I wonder if he is using the fancy jet plane the taxpayers of New Mexico are buying for him to go to NK... Or if he is saving that for his Presidential campaign travels.

Are the acolytes of Beelzeflubba trying to act as a shadow government?

You've heard the old expression, "polish on a turd"? Another FReeper gave him the nickname of rutabaga, 'cause he looks like one. He is sly and sneaky, and has, I believe, some inherited Clinton handlers. The damage he has caused here in NM will be costing us for decades. He has virtually put the state in hock for millions, and has received campaign "contributions" in return.

Little doubt of that in general, is there? After all, we know that their plants in State, CIA, Justice and even DoD are operating under their own agenda, not in America's best interests.

I don't know if Richardson is doing this as a Clontonista or on his own.... He was quite a 'slick operator' himself long before anyone ever heard of Bill&Hill... He probably even taught THEM a few new tricks once they did get together.

and I wonder if Richardson has the same scam going.

Hmmm...

MARCH 17, 1999 : (OIL FOR FOOD PROGRAM "KEY TO OUR NATIONAL SECURITY?" ) "Undersecretary of State for Political Affairs Thomas Pickering and Energy Secretary Bill Richardson testified March 17 that the U.N.'s Oil-For-Food program for Iraq is an essential component of the U.S. Administration's Iraq strategy and is, therefore, key to our national security. ------ "RICHARDSON, PICKERING FAVOR EXPANSION OF OIL-FOR-FOOD PROGRAM," By William B. Reinckens, USIA 17 March 1999"

Note that this statement came at a time when everyone who was paying even the slightest attention knew that the Oil for Food program was a sad joke.

It was key to our security only in the sense that it allowed a lot of black market oil to be exported from Iraq, inn effect making certain folks very rich. That also made it unlikely that anyone was going to confront Iraq for real and risk losing access to the oil.
