IDF engineer and infantry forces today utterly destroyed a Hezbollah headquarters in the western sector of southern Lebanon, at what until 2000 was the site of the Israeli Karkum position. Prior to demolishing the structure, the forces identified and destroyed a number of missile launchers, a cache of anti-tank missiles, and a motorcycle used by Hezbollah terrorists to reach and then flee from the sites from which they launch missiles into Israel.

"The operation's purpose was to scour Karkum, if there were Hezbollah terrorists to kill them, if there were bunkers and weapons, which we knew there were, it was our job to search and blow them up," said Lieutenant Colonel Yishai Efroni, deputy commander of the Baram formation. "As you see, we demolished the post and raised the Israeli flag, and now the D9 [armored bulldozers] are finishing flattening the place."

The thing that chaps my butt the most about all this is the fact that people want to point the finger at Israel for all of this mess. Israel is now, like they have done for pretty much their entire history, defending themselves against the Arabs. There have been times when they were the agressor, the Qibya Raid, Gaza Raid, the Sinai war of 1956 and the 1967 Six Day War but it was always pretty much in the vein of self-preservation. Israel is but a very small island of Jews in a sea of Arab hatred. Only a fool would think that Hezbollah is doing this on their own. Syria and Iran are the instigators here and the far greater threat. Personally I would like to see Israel finish off Lebanon and turn their guns to the east at Damascus. A few Tomahawks, courtesy of Uncle Sam, aimed at Tehran might not be such a bad idea as well. Israel's back is already pretty much against the wall. Arabs on three sides and water on the 4th. Eventually they will come to grips with the fact that they have nothing more to lose. When that day comes a lot of the Middle East will be fashioned into glass. God help us all when that happens.

The concept of "utterly destroying" has Biblical roots. It was what Yahweh instructed the Israelites to do to the native nations before them. Israel did not follow His instructions then. Will she follow them now? "Utterly destroying" does not apply to blowing up a building.
