GGG--I recommend you read also the research by Ariel Cohen on Hizb-Ut-Tahrir that I posted in the response to the article. He describes how modern-day Jihadists married the medieval idea of the worldwide Islamic Caliphate with Communist strategy of achieving it.
So there is no surprise that Jihadists and Communists cooperated at times in their struggle against the Western Civilization in the 20th century, although whenever Jihadists won, Communists are often among the first to be found hanging from lamposts or rotting in Islamic Jails. Totalitarians may cooperate at one point of history or another, but in the end when they are in power, they will not tolerate any competition.
