Page 1 above the fold in yesterday's New York Times featured a photo (below) by our new acquaintance Adnan Hajj.
I suspect that not all is as it appears to be in the photo, and somehow doubt that Times readers will ever learn why that might be the case.
The Reuters caption reads: "A severely wounded Lebanese civilian is carried away on a stretcher at Maameltain bridge, after it was targeted by Israeli air strikes, in the north of Beirut August 4, 2006. (Adnan Hajj/Reuters)" (Thanks to reader David Butz.)

To me, since it appears that only his TOP HALF is still intact, and on the strecher, I'd consider THAT severly wounded....IMHO....since there is no "sag" or blood on the strecher for his bottom half, and I don't see HIM bleeding, nor his clothes, and NO DIRT on thr bloody part of the "strecher", etc,etc,etc,......

I enlarged the photo and put in a couple of circles to point something out:
Notice in the center of the red circle, the material of the stretcher ENDS! The person who pointed out that it looks like the stretcher is a foot and a half long is 100% correct. The purple circle to the left is where the stretcher should appear from underneath his body, if he was actually lying on a stretcher.

I think the injured man was photoshopped from another image - like you said, the material for the stretcher ENDS under his arm! And no one looks like they are carrying a load. I don't even think this guy is Lebanese - he sure doesn't look it - look at all the other photos of Lebanese we have seen recently.

I don't see evidence of photoshopping in this one, but it sure looks staged.

And look how absolutely horizontal the injured man's body is. But there is NOTHING in the photo showing ANYTHING supporting his weight. You can see the legs of the guy in the white T-shirt, the legs of the photog and the legs of striped shirt guy.
now look the angle everyone is looking at as well as the angle of the upraised camera - they are pointing AWAY from the injured guy. Kinda odd for no one to be looking at the center of attention, eh?
Also, if you look closely enough, you can see the left-hand edge of the material directly below the verticle of the man's eye - there is a gap between his neck and his shoulder.
This man is being supported by air. Photoshop.

I don't see evidence of photoshopping in this oneThe guy is lying perfectly horizonally. Now, show me ONE ELEMENT in the photo that shows anything holding him up.

Yep. Now check out the orange dirt in the median strip. It's on the road, too. But not on the guy. I'm not saying that is impossible, just unlikely.

Some of you whack posters need to get a life. Sorry, but now we are out to bust the NY Times for running this as a front-page photo.

I rather dread to bring this up, but if you were going to fake explosion casualties, the place to learn would be footage from 9/11 where everyone was covered in the gray dust.

Like the grey baby, he has novisible injures.
I see the lack of support for the torso, the lack of sag from weight on the mini-stretcher, the front of which is at the wrong angle and the legs in back (which might be explainable).
What I don't see is a mechanism to explain what I do see.
To: george76
What SEVERLY wounded oersob has his head "raised up" and looking at the camera??? Raising your head like that takes EFFORT...Most people would just be RESTING on the stretcher.

Well, your effort will be wasted using this photo and claiming it's Photpshopped. Before Reuters pulled the photos from their database there were at least six photos of this guy from different angles and distances. This may be a staged photo but it is certainly not manipulated.

They could have been supporting him (very temporarily) from the left side of the picture, which would explain the look on his face - he thinks he's about to fall over (and he is).
