General Motors Corp. plans to bring back the Chevrolet Camaro as a production vehicle, a published report says.
GM chairman and chief executive officer Rick Wagoner is expected to announce the return of the muscle car in a speech Thursday at an automotive conference in Traverse City, Mich., the Detroit Free Press reported yesterday.
It could be built as early as 2008, the newspaper reported, citing unnamed people familiar with the plans. GM spokesman Christopher Preuss said yesterday that he couldn't comment on the report.
GM had won praise for its Camaro concept, which was unveiled in January at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.
The 2002 model year was the last for an earlier incarnation of the Camaro, which began its run with the 1967 model.

Alrighty. I have made my appt. at the optometrist, but I'm not sure it will change my impression of that Cadillacamaro zxlr28.

It does seem to never end, doesn't it? If it's competitively priced, it's not as good as the Japanese competition. If it's just as good, it costs more. If it's an improved model for a particular market segment, the Japanese, or the Koreans now, hit the same market segment with a home-run. Not optimistic.

"Ahh, fond memories of making love in the backk seat of my Vette." Every corvette I've seen have been two seaters. Are you referring to a chevette be any chance? =)

For got in just in time. The Mustang is already looking dated, although I do like it. Honestly, I hope for success for any new American autombile, and I mean CAR, since I am sick of SUV's.

That's BS. Get your eyes checked! He should get his eyes checked?
Maybe you were thinking of a '79 Seville.

I like the looks, anyway. It's so refreshing to see the end of the "box car" era.

"It was a mistake to drop the Camaro/Firebird in the first place. It was a mistake to drop the Camaro/Firebird in the first place."Check out Camaro sales figures and you'll understand why: the Camaro rarely sold more than a fraction of the Mustang numbers.

If they were smart they would bring back the rear wheel drive Roadmaster and the Caprice.
I have a friend who just bought a new Dodge Charger with the big Hemi. Thats a hunk of Machinery.
GM again a day late and a dollar short.

What made this car so successful was that it was well priced and gave good performance.
I will be surprised if GM follows this model of success. They want a high profit margin like on a Vette. That's probably why they took this car off the market to begin with. Watch, the Camaro will come in at mid to high 30K with a special version being available in the low 40's.

Ahh, fond memories of making love in the backk seat of my Vette. The only 'Vette with a back seat I've heard of was a Chevette and one of those wouldn't even get you to first base.
