General Motors Corp. plans to bring back the Chevrolet Camaro as a production vehicle, a published report says.
GM chairman and chief executive officer Rick Wagoner is expected to announce the return of the muscle car in a speech Thursday at an automotive conference in Traverse City, Mich., the Detroit Free Press reported yesterday.
It could be built as early as 2008, the newspaper reported, citing unnamed people familiar with the plans. GM spokesman Christopher Preuss said yesterday that he couldn't comment on the report.
GM had won praise for its Camaro concept, which was unveiled in January at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.
The 2002 model year was the last for an earlier incarnation of the Camaro, which began its run with the 1967 model.

We need American manufacturing to be strong.
I agree...that's why I bought a Honda.

F-150, H3, and others have those same tiny windows. Yuck.

By the time this gas-guzzling turkey comes out, gas will be up to $4 a gallon and the target market (teenagers and live-with-mom types unable to find a date) will not be able to afford to run them.
Once again, the Detroit "mediocre three" show why the Japanese Big Three (Toyota, Honda, Nissan) continue to kick their butts year after year after year.

Back seat? Which Corvette model did you have?

I am not sure about the Mullets but I am willing to bet that the vast majority of these will wind up in trailer parks across America. Of course the silver clear coat will be replaced with primer grey.

What's with all the sharp angles? Are they trying to reduce its radar signature?Perhaps, the melted jellybean look would be better?

(teenagers and live-with-mom types unable to find a date) will not be able to afford to run them. I tried to sell my Z-28 instead of trading it, found a 19 year old who wanted it at my price, the bank agreed to finance it for him and then he found out that his insurance payments would be more than his car payment and that soured the deal.

Duuudde!! Yall musta been really skinny to make love in the back seat of a vette!
The last back seat I was able to make love in was my 67 Galaxy 500. That puppy was as big as the couch I'm sitting on now.

Ford is getting good results with the new/old Mustang....I think they've made a huge mistake by putting all their eggs in that basket though. The decision to drop all support for the burgeoning "sport compact" market by de-contenting the Focus and diverging from the European version Focus refresh/upgrade path will cost them in the long run. They had the chance to grab a nice chunk of that young and growing segment of the market.
