General Motors Corp. plans to bring back the Chevrolet Camaro as a production vehicle, a published report says.
GM chairman and chief executive officer Rick Wagoner is expected to announce the return of the muscle car in a speech Thursday at an automotive conference in Traverse City, Mich., the Detroit Free Press reported yesterday.
It could be built as early as 2008, the newspaper reported, citing unnamed people familiar with the plans. GM spokesman Christopher Preuss said yesterday that he couldn't comment on the report.
GM had won praise for its Camaro concept, which was unveiled in January at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.
The 2002 model year was the last for an earlier incarnation of the Camaro, which began its run with the 1967 model.
Ick .... I'll just wait for the Dodge 300C Coupe.
And just as the Retro-car fad was starting to fade, GM in their infinate wisdom, launches this thing..
My last Camaro was a 2001 SS. That was a pretty car. This new one looks like a Ruffles potato chip on wheels.
What's with all the sharp angles? Are they trying to reduce its radar signature?
Does this mean that big haired mullets, gold chains, B.U.M. wear, disco/anthem rock tunes, white dress shoes, gold Italian horns, etc. are all coming back into fashion?
Hmmm. Looks a lot like the Cadillac XLR..coincidence? I think not! Also, like the previous poster said regarding the retro look, Chevy will be 'A day late and a dollar short'
More DUMB decisions from Wagoner.
LOL...I'm going to start growing my mullet now. Oh yeah, and I got to lay my hands on a "Calvin peeing on a Ford symbol" sticker as well.
This is supposed to be GM's new improved '69 Camaro'.
It falls a tad short to me.
I bouht a new Z-28 in '97. Ran like a bat outta hell but upkeep was a killer.
It still has one overriding design flaw. It is a chevy. Nothing can be done to rectify the bowtie of shame.
Get a clue. They were dropped cuz they weren't selling.
Agreed. I'll take an actual 1969 Camaro please.
I think you nailed it. And as far as the retro look, they're two steps behind Ford's Mustang revival and trying hard to catch up.
Yup. Camaros can be like that. Sounds like it was a great ride though.
I moved onto a Mustang Cobra 2003. Much more reliable, believe it or not.
I don't think I like the ultra high-beltline, low-grrenhouse look that seems to prevail in American designs these days.
Ahh, fond memories of making love in the backk seat of my Vette. Then there was the Camaro. Then came marriage, kids , and the minivan.
