Lieberman
The Opinion Journal ^ | August 7, 2006 | Martin Peretz

We have been here before. Left-wing Democrats are once again fielding single-issue "peace candidates," and the one in Connecticut, like several in the 1970s, is a middle-aged patrician, seeking office de haut en bas, and almost entirely because he can. It's really quite remarkable how someone like Ned Lamont, from the stock of Morgan partner Thomas Lamont and that most high-born American Stalinist, Corliss Lamont, still sends a chill of "having arrived" up the spines of his suburban supporters simply by asking them to support him. Superficially, one may think of those who thought they were already middle class just by being enthusiasts of Franklin Roosevelt, who descended from the Hudson River Dutch aristocracy. But when FDR ran for, and was elected, president in 1932, he had already been a state senator, assistant secretary of the Navy and governor of New York. He had demonstrated abilities.

Suzy Quzy, really, how old are you?

I suggest you go back and re-read my comment. Anyone with a modicum of sense would see that I did not recommend that the President appoint Joe Lieberman as Secretary of Defense.

can you imagine what it would be like if lieberman was in this situation and was a republican being challenged from teh right -- all we would hear from teh MSM is how this race is a prima facia example of the anti-semitism on the American right.... not mention, however, anywhere of the anti-semitism of the anti-war left and its motivation in this challege to Lieberman. Curious, no?

Does this mean that the democratic party will give Hillary the 'boot' too in the next election because of HER support for the war?

No. I didn't say he should make him Secretary of State. Although if the President did, and Joe had been re-elected in the November elections, this would be a GOP pickup assuming that a Republican Governor would appoint a Republican member of the Congressional Delegation to take the senate seat.

The Weekly Standard has been pushing the idea of Joe Lieberman as Secretary of Defense for three or four years now. Bill Kristol just last week on Fox had recommended a Lieberman appointment to the Pentagon. The RATs will no doubt see the hand of Karl Rove in all of this. A Rovian plot as it were designed to pick up an extra senate seat. Who's to say it's just paranoia?

Just about as soon as pigs learn to fly without airplanes. This is likely, however, to force ther Witch to reveal herself as the Marxist she really is.

Hillary jumped on the old balance beam when she told Rummy that she was smarter than him.....and knew more about war than him. This is one brilliant woman!! :-)

And Peretz is known to be quite a liberal, isn't he?

Yes, but he's an "old" liberal (from when they were still sane). And I think he's taken a lot of flak from the moonbats because of it.

Come to think of it, maybe that's why he likes Liberman! ;-)

Don'tcha just love the expression, "Left-wing Democrats." As if there were any other kind.

Lieberman is a far-left, radical, socialist-loving, Democrat who has supported the socialization of America his whole career in Congress.

The idea that he would be better for America than some other far-left, radical, socialist-loving Democrat is silly.

If Lieberman loses the primary and runs as an I, he will win the General....

If Lieberman loses the primary and doesn't run.. and the race is Lamont vs any Republican.. the race will help Republicans across the country.

Lamont is an opportunistic nutball, and as america sees more and more of him and hears more and more of his cowardly nonsense... the stronger the R voters will show up across the country and the D candidates across the country will be defending their parties cowardice and be harmed across the board.

Hannity does like him too much. However, I think he feels like many of us do-while Lieberman is a liberal, he's the kind of liberal that we can respect but disagree with, a liberal that (at least seems) to love his country.

Would have been nice if Marty had had the balls to run this piece a few weeks ago and not the day before the freaking election. Fat lot of good it's gonna do now. But he can then say "I told you so" to the Democrats when their leftist chickens come home to roost.

Unless you know of a way a conservative Republican could be elected in Conn.

You're right, there is no way, no way whatsoever...If theres got to be liberal politicians in this world, they might as well be like Lieberman, as opposed to Neddie Lamont.

I would certainly like to agree with you, but with a voting record like LIEberman has racked up it's impossible.

It's impossible for me to believe that ANY liberal is one I can respect (that goes for the RINOs we have to put up with as well) because if, indeed, they love their country why do they continually sponsor or vote on more and more bills to trash it?

"I hope LIEberman loses it all. he is totally liberal except on Israel."
i would not say Totally liberal closer to 85%. He is very Hawkish (as we all know) and surprisingly is for school vouchers. He also at one time backed a social security reform package that dealt with partial privatization though not the one that Bush most recently promoted
