HANCOCK COUNTY - Charges facing Edna May Sanders were upgraded to murder Friday, when her husband died from severe burns sustained during a domestic dispute last week at their Diamondhead home.
The 45-year-old woman is accused of dumping a pot of blistering-hot grease on her sleeping husband, leaving him with third-degree burns on more than half of his body.
Sherman Sanders spent a week clinging to life in the burn center at the University of South Alabama in Mobile. After his death late Friday afternoon, county investigators intensified the search for his wife.
Investigators said Sanders, whose maiden name is Miller, fled the couple's Mally Way home with their two children after last week's altercation driving a 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix, with a retired U.S. Navy license plate.
Authorities said the two were married only a short time.
"She has family in Texas and Louisiana and that's where we are concentrating all our efforts right now," said Kenny Hurt, the county's chief investigator.
Police believe Edna Sanders heated about two quarts of household cooking oil on the stove and allowed the grease to reach a simmer while her husband slipped into a sound sleep. Then, she poured the smoldering grease over his head, face, chest and arms.
Investigators who worked the crime scene gave horrific details this week, describing skin that dripped from the victim's hands.
Ricky Fayard, who is leading the investigation, told the Sun Herald exactly what led to the burning remains unclear. Sherman was unable to speak for most of the time he was hospitalized.
Earlier this week, Hancock County investigators issued a nationwide plea for help in finding Sanders. Police are asking anyone with information on her whereabouts to contact the Hancock Sheriff's Department at (228) 467-5101.
Mississippi ping
It's stuff like this for which "eye for an eye" was invented.
who wants to bet we end up having to listen to how she was abused and he was a drunk etc etc.

YEP
Yep, and we'll see her portrayed as a Thelma and Louise femiNazi hero.
Nope, she was a canibal but hated raw meat.....
Can't wait to see what this woman looks like. For some reason, I am not picturing high society.
She'll be burning herself for eternity.
Not to mention that he kept her from watching Dr. Phil.
OMG......I was about to go to bed...
This is why women in their 40s have a difficult time getting married.
OMG......I was about to go to bed.
Sleep with at least one eye open.
LOL...I'm gonna go hide the Crisco before I turn in...
"Yep, and we'll see her portrayed as a Thelma and Louise femiNazi hero."
I don't think so this time, Bill Clinton pretty much ended the days of the all powerful, highly covered, feminist machine.
NOW's support of him over the powerless women he attacked, seemed to destroy the organization and pushed them into the trash heap of history.
Unfortunately for her she didn't commit the crime in Texas, where she could get away with it if she just figures out how to act insane, like Andrea Yates.
She slipped away from the authorities?
This fiend should be stopped.

She headed that way as we write.
Yep. And how he beat her and sexually abused the children, etc. Then she'll turn on the faucets during her trial and get a light sentence because she's sooooo sorrrrryyyyy.
IIRC, a scorned lover poured a pot of boiling grits over the Rev. Al Green back in the early 70's; she then committed suicide.
Geez, I was just waxing eloquent on another thread about sizzling onions in bacon grease and how the tantalizing smell made hubby call my name out in his sleep.
I put my bacon grease away, I promise!
