An English schoolgirl has been raped while on holiday with her family at a nudist colony in the south of France.
The girl, believed to be from London, is alleged to have been attacked by a 19-year-old man in a caravan at the Bélézy camp, one of Europe's biggest for naturists, at Bédoin in the Vaucluse.
She is said to be under 15 and regularly attends the colony with her family, who are of Swedish origin.
The suspect is described as a ''brilliant" science student who lives locally. He denied the charge when questioned by an investigating magistrate.
Michel Roubard, a defence lawyer, said his client contested the police version of events and insisted that sex took place "by consent after an evening when both had been drinking".
The youth is being held in custody and theoretically faces up to 30 years in jail for rape of a minor.
The camp, which was established 30 years ago at the foot of Mount Ventoux, attracts about 2,000 nudists each summer and the alleged rape is said to have caused deep shock among holidaymakers. Counselling has been offered to young people at the camp.
Pascal Leclere, the colony's manager, said: ''As the father of two children who are also naturists, I could never have imagined something like this happening here.''
The camp was created by hippies and enforces a strict no-clothes policy, with a sign reminding visitors from all over the world that "full-time nakedness is a basic obligation".
Suzanne Piper, a British agent for the camp, said that she was trying to establish whether the victim was a 14-year-old girl whose family booked their holiday through her company.
She said security at the camp was usually first-rate, with an 8ft perimeter fence and access by swipe cards.
"One wonders where on earth this girl's parents were? It was the middle of the night and they seem to have allowed her to go out drinking with these boys."
Swipe cards and nudists? It seems...uh...unsanitary.
yep...swipe is too close to wipe.
"She should never have been in this depraves cesspool in the first place."
It's very frustration to see people jumping to conclusions on subjects they know nothing about. As an old hippy myself, I've been to Belezy. It's an absolutely beautiful place and things like this really don't happen very often at family oriented nudist clubs. You might be interested to know that a poll taken a few years ago showed that the majority of members at these clubs are Republicans or Libertarians. In addition, most children brought up as nudists are less likely to be targets of abuse because their parents are more likely to have frank discussions with them about what is acceptable behavior and what is not.

I got a black eye playing naked volley ball once.
ROTFLOL!!!
Almost choked, while eating potatoe salad, when I read that line!!
Exactly, Why people try to make themselves superior by denying their humanity is beyond me.
Jumping to conclusions is the FR way....anybody see the movie "Office Space"?
Gives a whole new meaning to the term, "fanny pack"......
And where do they keep those, if they are fully naked? nevermind....I don' want to know...
"waving what?" Why, the flagpole, of course! {presumably without the flag...}
Great minds....
For some reason, I'm not outraged.
Don't ask.
In their pants pocket silly! ; )
Nope.
I know the 2 jack ass idiots who go to nudist camps and wonder they have marriage problems.
He is a worthless drunk who gets wrecked at the camps and passes out.
She is a worthless cheat who grabs anything that ins't nailed down (or is).
No one has realized why its a bad thing for these 2 to go to these camps.
Or stupider, why these 2 shouldn't be married anymore.
Some wave some wink!!!!
My guess is its legal over there (as it is here).
It also won't do much good as this nudist camp is also blaming the parents (and making themselves look better) for it.
anybody see the movie "Office Space"?
Nope, I've been busy organizing my Closet Space :-)
I've had that arguement with many a philosophy teacher.
