Protesters have clashed with police in London during a mass demonstration calling for a ceasefire in Lebanon. (Pic: Reuters)

The protest began at Speakers' Corner in Hyde Park, central London, with thousand of marchers turning out to highlight widespread unhappiness at the unwillingness of Britain and the US to call for an immediate ceasefire.

The demonstration then passed the US Embassy where there were scuffles between police and a handful of demonstrators.

The protest then headed for Whitehall, where campaigners left children's shoes at the Cenotaph to highlight the children's lives lost in the Middle East conflict.

The march then proceeded to Parliament Square, where a rally was held.

Labour MP Jeremy Corbyn said: "The demonstration shows the unity of any normal thinking person in this country that there should be an immediate ceasefire and that the Government's line is incomprehensibly wrong."

The BBC are putting a figure of 20,000 on the march. I have no Idea how accurate that is. But the left love to march, it's a day out.

An agreement has been reached on a UN resolution by US & France. I have no idea what the headlines or the details are.

I must have missed the protest after the pigs broke res. 1559 & attacked Israel and kidnapped her soldiers.

Jeremy's bio DOB: 26 May 1949.

Labour Member for Islington North since 1983 with a majority of 12,958 at the 2001 election.

Currently involved as/in:

Vice Chair of Parliamentary Human Rights Group

Vice Chair of the Western Sahara Group (APPG)

Chair of Liberation, The Anti-Imperialist / Anti-Racist Organisation

Steering Committee of Stop the War

National Council of CND (Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament)

Jeremy’s action against poverty and in support of security, environmental and human rights questions, both at home and internationally are well known. The need for more affordable housing for his constituents has dominated his work in parliament for many years, and all of his more recent questions to the government on housing can be found in the In Parliament section of this website. As well as this, meetings with ministers and local groups with regard to housing are noticeable in the Diary. The needs of minority groups including asylum seekers have also been at the forefront of his work both in and out of parliament.

In his peacekeeping roles (see above list) he has attended and spoken at human rights peace conferences, including Beijing, Mumbai, New Delhi, Rwanda, UN/Geneva and other parts of Europe. He has had significant involvement in campaigning against miscarriages of justice, eg for Irish victims such as the Birmingham Six, Guildford Four, and Bridgewater Three. This experience taught him much about the dangers of rushing through (parliament) anti terrorist legislation which enables the wrongful imprisonment of innocent people. He recently voted against similar draconian measures in parliament, inquiring of the Minister: “ ... Does my right hon. Friend accept that a criminal court convicted that individual, and that the legislation that we are passing will allow people to be restricted or detained on the basis of hearsay evidence through the security services? The defendant will know nothing about it; nor will the public, and therein lies the road to miscarriages of justice. “

Jeremy Corbyn has campaigned enthusiastically for fair pension provision for all, against racism, and on the major issues affecting his constituents, especially unemployment and low pay. He attends the UN Human Rights Commission in Geneva on a regular basis, and has recently led an Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) delegation to Angola, followed by a human rights-based visit to Rwanda. Since September 11 2001 he has spoken at anti-war meetings tirelessly in the UK and abroad.

Summary

Probably one of the most hateful members of parliament sitting, Jermey hates his country and all it stands for. A communist at heart, he loves "Working tirelessly" (staying in 5 star hotels)in countries such as Rwanda, India, and Angola.

Hugely sympathetic to anything Anti-Sematic ( I doubt Deborah Lipstatd cares though as far too little opportunity for her own publicity)

Yep, a few weeks of sunshine and we turn all Londonstanish again.

But hey - thank God this kind of demonstration is allowed. I fight for the these very freedoms! In their idealistic societies the same liberties would not be extended to those with whom they disagreed.

I hope they had the decency to say 'thank you' to the police when they left.

No the protest shows simple herd mentality. Where are the protests for Israeli civilians murdered in homicide bombing attacks, indiscriminate rocket attacks on their cities, and just out and out murder of Israelis by Hezbollah? This moral inversion we see in the West will be the end of our civilization if it is not stopped.

If these Shit-ite heads really believe in what they're protesting, let them go to Lebanon and fight for Hezbollah. Of course if they're infidels they'll probably get decapitated before they ever see the IDF.

Should read "The demonstration shows the unity of any Liberal elitist thinking person in this country

Jeremy Corbyn is an individual of zero achievement and every year that passes his bitterness grows deeper at his own failure. Cruel but true!!
