Bravo for Bolton

Perhaps the best reason to support John Bolton's confirmation as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations is that his approach to foreign policy is radically different from John Kerry's, as shown by their exchange during Mr. Bolton's confirmation hearings. It is a shame anyone missed this delicious slap-down. Mr. Bolton said, for the United Nations to be effective on Iran, North Korea and Lebanon, the 15 members of the Security Council (and particularly the "Perm[anent] 5,") would have to reach policy agreements about those countries. Mr. Kerry's reflexive response was: "And isn't it fair to say that we're sort of the odd person out on most of those policies?"

Mr. Kerry tried to lecture Mr. Bolton on what liberal think-tank "intellectuals" believe is behind our failure to make headway with North Korea. Mr. Kerry said, "Most of the people that I've talked to spent a lot of time in various thoughtful institutions thinking about these issues -- a career -- believe that what North Korea wants more than anything is an assurance that the United States of America wasn't going to have a strategy similar to Iraq directed at them."

Everything you need to know about Kerry is right there in that paragraph--his intense need to be seen as an intellectual, in this case through his association with think tank people (who be really smart!), his intense belief that the US is the world's troublemaker, and his intense inability to realize when he's up against a superior opponent because he himself has breeding, while his opponents (Bolton, Bush) don't have the proper "style".

I rank his intellectual abilities with those of Ted Kennedy and Pee-Wee Herman.

I know we casually make fun of Dems all the time around here, but Kerry really does seem stupid. He's been my senator for decades, unfortunately, and hasn't said anything memorable, done anything important, taken any stand that was risky or based on conviction. About the ONLY thing of note he's done is allow people in Irish-Catholic-heavy Boston believe he's of Irish ancestry--he carefully never claimed this, but played along. That's all he's done to distinguish him from an empty cardboard box.

Considering what our other senator does to get headlines, that's an improvment.

This is the mentality of the corruption of the big city political machines. Everything is negotiable in this "Let's Make a Deal" axis with the criminal underworld. What could hurt us more in international affairs than that the shining city on the hill has rotton dens of iniauity in it?

It's hard to earn a Purple Heart posthumously for wounds that don't even require bed rest. :)

If he be an intellectual I be a mensa.

*** Besides, as Mr. Bolton said -- to the embarrassment-resistant Mr. Kerry -- ****

I also liked this statement. Embarrassment --resistant.. Thats a great line it covers most of the democrat party today.

And are treated with a bandaid and don't even warrant aspirin for pain.
