The face of New York City and its suburbs has changed profoundly since the start of the 21st century.
According to census figures released yesterday, Manhattan was the only county in the city and nearby suburbs to register a significant increase of non-Hispanic white residents from April 1, 2000, to July 1, 2005. But the influx of young people priced out of Manhattan also helped produce a gain of whites in Brooklyn in the same period a tiny number, yet apparently the first such mid-decade increase in years.
Between 2000 and 2005, the number of white residents dropped by 12 percent in the Bronx and 7 percent in Queens, but dipped by only a little more than 1 percent in the city over all. In contrast, the white population declined by 6 percent in Nassau and 3 percent in Westchester. The net loss of white residents was actually greater in Nassau, Westchester and Rockland Counties than in the city.
The latest figures reveal the magnitude of the demographic shifts that are resulting in a more diverse metropolitan area. Hispanic people now constitute a majority in the Bronx. Whites are a minority in Union and Passaic Counties in New Jersey.
A growth of more than 4 percent in the Hispanic population of New York City since 2000 was dwarfed by increases of up to 18 percent in the adjacent counties, and by even larger increases 23 percent in Rockland, 32 percent in Dutchess, 55 percent in Putnam in the outer suburbs.
The number of black residents rose by 34 percent in Nassau and by 52 percent in Orange. The Asian population, which rose by 29 percent on Staten Island, climbed 34 percent in Nassau and 57 percent in Putnam, compared with a 13 percent increase in the city.

Does this make the Yankees an MBE?
"The Sharks are gonna rumble toniiiiiiiiight...."
Hmmm...
Some of these stats are hard to judge because using percentages can make an increase of one to two seem huge.
wall street is a residential area now, and more so all the time. it's pitiful. only a matter of time before the NYSE is turned into condos (only half kidding).
Q. Why are Hispanics considered non-white?
A. The Diversity Bores need to demonize Northern Europeans.
Note Italo-Americans: Good thing your ancestors got here sooner otherwise you too would be considered non-white by these jokers.
This does not take in to account the low birth rate (dearth of young) among whites. The whites leaving likely include many elderly leaving for retirement magnets or the cemetery.
They/we were and often still are considered to be of separate category.
Not on any form or published article I've ever seen.

Where is the source, please? I'm curious about the rest of the boroughs and state.

First enter the year and the state. Then use your mouse pointer to point to the district or county. The election results will pop up in an information box.
This is a really cool site and you can get a lot of information on it by experimenting around with the side boxes.
Enjoy!
Bookmarked. Thank you!
