HALAT, Lebanon, Aug. 4 Israeli airstrikes destroyed four bridges along Lebanons main north-south highway in the Christian heartland north of Beirut on Friday, and killed more than 30 people in other areas far from Hezbollah-controlled territory.
With the Beirut-Damascus road already cut at several points, the attacks seemed aimed at arms routes from Syria. But because those same routes bring supplies and aid into the country, they tightened Lebanons sense of siege.

More from the article ... "I blame the Israelis."
One of those bridges had a children's cancer hospital directly beneath it!/s
OK, given that the NY Slimes will print anything to undermine American and/or Israeli interests, I have to ask the question: what positive end is achieved by bombing the Maronite (Catholic) areas of Lebanon? These are not pro-hizb'allah militants that are being bombed.
The bridges are a major "pipeline" for weapons? Hezzies? Iranian's? Syrians? Just some thoughts.
does anyone have a map,
showing what bridges were bombed?
The islamofascists will go around it. Bombing a bridge might slow down the flow of weapons a bit, but it isn't going to stop it. The longer term impact on the local population, however, is going to be more dramatic.

They are impressing on the Lebanese government and the Lebanese people the reality of their situation. If they think they can sit in the north and cheer on Hizbollah while sucking on the world aid tit they are sadly mistaken.
the message being delivered is,
If you let thugs launch rockets into another country,
your country gets blowed up.
And the public agrees; The NYTimes' readership is rapidly decreasing.
"If they think they can sit in the north and cheer on Hizbollah while sucking on the world aid *** they are sadly mistaken."
Northern Lebanon is where the Christian minority (Maronite Catholic) lives. I seriously doubt that they're sitting around cheering on hizb'allah.

Since when is the Christian minority in Lebanon volunteering to "let" the islamofascist thugs do anything?

My dear RKBA Democrat,
Has it occurred to you that there may be some quite significant strategic assets or objectives that the IAF is bombing there?
This is all too typical particularly given Hezbollah's barbaric tactics of embedding in civilian, notably Christian, areas? Just three days ago their 'hospital' HQ was raided and found devoid of patients or genuine hospital gear but replete with Islamofascist warmongery.
If you otherwise imagine the IAF indulges in joy bombings ala' the Islamofascists, you are wildly off track.
Sincerely,
Dodger
PS: Cousins are Lebanese Maronite Christians ...

I haven't heard a lot from them one way or another, but the roads and bridges going through there were the major supply lines. If war only hurt the guilty it would have a lot better reputation, wouldn't it?
"Polls done by US news agencies showed the following: 85% of Sunni Muslims, 81% of Christians, and 85% of Shias Muslims view Hezbollah as Lebanon's defenders." Source.

Yes, it has. I simply don't see how the noble objective of ridding our planet of hizb'allah is achieved by destroying infrastructure in areas populated by Christians (who happen to detest hizb'allah).
Destroying a weapons cache or knocking out an enemy stronghold is one thing. Wrecking a series of bridges that serve a local population on the suspicion that they might be being used to transport arms is another, especially when the enemy will simply use other means to achieve the same end. The local population will be left with having to rebuild that which was destroyed.

You must be confusing me with someone who works at the NY Slimes.
I support Israel and I think they were morally justified in responding to hizb'allah aggression. However, even the most honorable of nations acting in good faith can make strategic mistakes or be hamfisted in their approach.

I went to the link. A few details that I noticed: (1) the source of the article was aljazeerra.com (2) the U.S. news agencies conducting the survey were not named. (3) the interview of a Maronite was conducted by the BBC, the same organization who earned the nickname "Baghdad Broadcasting Company" at the beginning of the Iraq war.
With all deference and respect, the cited source has little credibility.
this has nothing to do with 'volunteering'
Arab 'A' lets Arab 'B' and his friends launch
rockets into another country
--> tough luck,
the whole country is a legitimate target.
