An Indian state has banned the sale of soft drinks as the country's highest court told the US beverage giants Pepsico and Coca-Cola to reveal the ingredients of their products.

"The ban will be in force in all educational institutes, including medical and technical colleges and universities and offenders will be punished," a spokesman from the administration of northern Rajasthan state announced Friday.

The pesticides are Indian. They are in the water India adds to the imported syrup.

Indians will still be drinking the pesticide, but they won't be drinking Coke or Pepsi.

Which was the goal all along.

"The pesticides are Indian. They are in the water India adds to the imported syrup."

That is your opinion (and is totally incorrect). Fact is other soft drinks have have far less levels of pesticides as compared to Coke and Pepsi.

"Which was the goal all along."

Yeah. That tired conspiracy theory again.

Fact is, this is the result of a frivolous lawsuit, and backed by one of those weenie environmental organizations. The fact that you buy into it demonstrates where your loyalties lie.

India can do no wrong in your eyes ever, and even their tricycles can beat US tanks. It's no conspiracy that the Indian economy still remains tightly controlled by the government and is fiercely protectionist. It's a fact. I'm not surprised that you don't see or believe it.

Even Tom Tancredo's army hasn't tried to blacken advertisements for Tecate and Corona beer.

I think you need to ...

It was called humor, Mimirs, a technique used in communication to express ideas and to lighten up the situation. Freedom of speech allows this.

"stick to the core of this thread...Don't give me useless parallels "

Ok, if you had taken the time to read, my other point was a far more relevant parallel: DDT is not the enemy! DDT was used to wash off the holocaust survivors, and they survived. DDT is needed in parts of Africa for pest control, it works, but it was not used because of fear as irrational as yours, and A MILLION HUMANS WERE ALLOWED TO DIE. Millions are NOT, NOT dying from drinking Pepsi and Coke.

if your brain can't concoct anything more than...

Ad hominem attacks are considered impolite in our culture, attacking the person rather than the ideas.("No personal attacks")

And our "god", because He is the only one, has a capital G.

We definitely do have the technological capability

Technology has no real power for good if not linked with the right God, the right moral system, the right worldview, as we see with N. Korea, Iran, China, etc.

> A Chevy (made in US) wont last very long on rural Indian roads.

Perhaps then they need to invest in some infrastructure for their Mercedes, Hondas and BMWs to ride upon. Nothing more useless than a fancy car with no place to go.

"Fact is, this is the result of a frivolous lawsuit, and backed by one of those weenie environmental organizations."

That I believe is your personal opinion. Pepsi and Coke are known to have high concentrations of toxic chemicals for quite sometime now and yet they managed to remain in the Indian market by taking advantage of the same (corrupt) system but now that their time has run out, you guys would be the first to cry foul. As long as the system serves in your favour its was great now thats its turned against you come up with the usual rant about "protectionism" and "government control".

"Protectionism" is when US government tries to enact laws to prevent outsourcing to countries like India. Thats protectionism. This issue is about consumables not up-to proper safety standards and is in fact downright harmful. India applying some stringent standards on consumables isnt "protectionism". Whats rules apply for Coke and Pepsi applies to other soft drinks as well. Either comply by the rules or just quit our market.

"The fact that you buy into it demonstrates where your loyalties lie."

(Yawn) Tell me about it.

BTW I see better use for Coke and Pepsi. We can always use them to spray our crops with.

Exactly so. In India, it's the DHMO that causes so many problems. Somebody should do something.

I'm presuming that you are being sarcastic. Otherwise, I would have to presume that your were unfamiliar with capitalism by backing a government backed jidah to force companies to reveal trade secrets in order to have access to the market for no rational purpose other than to hinder the foreigners.

If you think there is some 'junk' 'depleting' your resources, you might want to start a new thread since that is not what the Indian government was seeking to do. If a company were putting lead or mercury in their product, any scientist (of which there are millions in India) could prove it with a high school lab kit. Otherwise, this move was an extortion attempt related more to some local turf battle or lack of appropriate bribery than having anything to do with public safety or 'resource' depletion.

But since you were just being sarcastic, I'll laugh along with you.

Look, as far as I'm concerned, you can ban all American products in your country. I couldn't care less.

India will be the one to suffer, but until you learn that lesson, that's your problem. If you don't think you're suffering, then you're not, and that's all that counts to Indians.
