Things could get testy in Baghdad about 7:30AM est here in the States.

We were expecting the worst and....

they behaved themselves!

Oh, they burned flags and acted like a bunch of Mookie-sheep, but the thugs and the pudgy boy himself were nowhere to be found.

Cowards.

Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez announced yesterday that he ordered the withdrawal of his country's ambassador to Israel in protest over the "genocide" caused by the Israeli military offensive in Lebanon and the Gaza Strip. Upon his return from a two-week overseas trip that included a visit to Iran, Chávez said he was infuriated by how Israel keeps "trampling, bombing, and tearing apart" innocent [civilians] with "gringo" aircraft while the United Nations Security Council does nothing.

MOSUL, Iraq - Ten people, including three Iraqi policemen, were
killed on Friday by a suicide bomber in Hadhar, a town 55 miles
south of Mosul, a police source told Reuters.

The attack took place on a sports field and wounded 12 people,
including nine policemen, who were patrolling the area.

It followed clashes in Mosul between insurgents and Iraqi and
U.S. forces, and a car bombing which killed one of the city's
senior police officers.

US General: Iraq Could Slide to Civil War
By Al Pessin
Pentagon
03 August 2006

The commander of all U.S. forces in the Middle East told Congress Thursday that militants are trying to push Iraq into civil war, but he also said he believes the Iraqi government and military can prevent that if they have strong international support.

During a lengthy and sometimes heated discussion between senior defense department officials and members of the Senate Armed Services Committee, General John Abizaid painted a stark picture of the situation in Baghdad.

"I believe that the sectarian violence is probably as bad as I've seen it in Baghdad in particular, and that if not stopped it is possible that Iraq could move toward civil war," he said. "Al-Qaida terrorists, insurgents and Shia' militia militants compete to plunge the country into civil war. It is a decisive time in Baghdad and it requires decisive Iraqi action with our clear support."

Timor Goksel witnessed the birth of
Hezbollah in the early 1980s when he
was political adviser to the UN
peacekeeping force in southern
Lebanon.

"What we are seeing so far are what
they call 'village reserves' - that's a very
interesting thing. Hezbollah have not
committed their troops yet," he says.

Islamic group: 200 militants sent to bomb 'Israel's vital interests'

By Reuters

JAKARTA - More than 200 Islamic militants from Southeast Asia have been sent on missions to bomb Israel's "vital interests" and countries that support the Jewish state, their leader said on Friday.

The militants have been trained to carry out suicide bombings to avenge Israel's military strikes on the Palestinian territories and Lebanon, said Suaib Didu, chairman of the Jakarta-based ASEAN Muslim Youth Movement.

...
"More than 3,000 people have signed up for the mission, and 217 people from Indonesia, the Philippines, Malaysia and Singapore have been dispatched abroad so far, he said."

Rueters:

More than 200 Islamic militants from Southeast Asia have been sent on missions to bomb Israel's "vital interests" and countries that support the Jewish state, their leader said on Friday. Western countries such as the United States and Britain, as well as businesses, could be targeted unless they cease supporting Israel.

Here's some optimitic thoughts from a poster on another board on how our Admin is handling the diplomatic front of this war, we can only hope he is correct -

"I think the Bush admin has taken a page from the Arafat play book...

Says the words that sound nice to the audience that wants to hear them..

Keep fighting...

Thank you arafat for teaching us how to talk to your people... "

My wife is from the Philippines. Most areas are pretty safe, actually, but it is quite an experience: the first time you go someplace like that, and when you go to MacDonalds there's an armed guard at the door...

Olmert: "I don’t want now to draw comparisons [but] one could ask the question what precisely did the European forces [do] in Kosovo 10 years ago. How many innocent civilians were killed in Kosovo 10 years ago? We can draw on and on these comparisons."
