Freeped buddy, good pick for freeping, though the "no" vote is split more ways than a Democrat convention.
I've lived almost seven decades, and the summers while I was growing up were just exactly like they are now. The biggest difference is, I'm typing this in my air conditioned home, which we didn't have then. Not very many of us anyway.
lets not forget acid rain, sars, bird flu, EEE, mad cow disease, and every other phony trumped up media warning of our impending doom
that miraculously always seem to be a big problem during the ratings sweeps.
That's correct. In fact, right here in ARkansas, it has been hot, but no hotter than the overall summer average. For that matter, the last two or three summer have actually been "less hot" (I just can't say 'cooler") than many of my memories. IN fact, I remember in 2000 having 100 degree days starting in May and a total of between 40-60 days above 100 that summer (depends on the reporting station).
We have had only about 12 days officially above 100 so far this summer.
And what is really interesting - growing up, we didn't have A/C (actually we had a single window unit and a 2200 sq/ft house....). We use an attic fan to cool the house to what was close to bearable. And I am far less tolerant of heat now than when I was young...
I guess that is why I get puzzled when I hear about so many "suffering" folks when it gets up in the 90's or even bumping 100 in many places. I remember many summers of 95-104 temp days with no A/C - and I lived. Made me appreciate having the A/C today! AT the time, it wasn't considered a necessity. Today, it seems that you are a hopeless mess without it - eligible for all sorts of public assistance.

lmao, it didn't take long for the heat wave mania by the ecogeek media to get rolling.
It's Bush's fault.
Bunch of idiots hyping.
The reality is that this particularly heat wave is a lot like the ones in 1939 and 1944. Trough comes down, gets pressure from another trough to the Rockies and West, the hot air gets sucked up since the two troughs SQUEEZE the hot air (which makes it hotter.) In the summertime, heat wins because of the sun angle, if nothing else. The trough splits and the hot air is forced into the split in a fashion that compresses it and lifts it at the same time--sort of a dry monsoon as to the lift.
Try to explain that in a thirty-second sound bite.

FREEPING IN PROGRESS
Haven't Freeped a poll in awhile. It's fun. (I suggest "Duh, it's summer.")
Maybe your garbage disposal is cross-wired with the light switch?
Hey I say bring on more mad cow scares - damn, we ate prime Alberta beef all summer at very low prices.
Seems to me like a lot of the things they say "could happen tomorrow" have already happened at least once.
Plus, if "It Could Happen Tomorrow", why do they always wait until Sunday to tell us about it?
My cat puked 3 times today. Must be that dang global warming.
and everything else is bushes fault : )
I predict that mentally unstable people are going to go nuts over global warming. What haven't they blamed global warming for ?
