(COLUMBIA, S.C.) - The SCGOP today announced "An Evening Honoring 'America's mayor,' Rudy Giuliani." The South Carolina Republican Party will join House Speaker Bobby Harrell in hosting a reception honoring former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani on Wednesday, August 16 in Charleston. The event will be held at Hibernian Hall from 7:30-9:00 p.m. to benefit the South Carolina Republican Party.
"We are excited and honored to have Mayor Giuliani visit South Carolina. His steady leadership during crises and his record of accomplishment truly make him 'America's Mayor.' He is an exceptional individual and I am proud to call him a fellow Republican," said Katon Dawson, South Carolina Republican Party Chairman.
Giuliani was elected in 1993 as the 107th Mayor of New York City. As a Republican, his 1993 campaign focused on quality of life issues, crime reduction, economic development, and welfare reform. Giuliani was reelected in 1997 by a wide margin.
As Mayor, Rudy Giuliani returned accountability to City government and improved the quality of life for all New Yorkers. Under his leadership, overall crime fell 57% and murder was reduced 65%. Giuliani has enacted a record of over $2.5 billion in tax reductions and restored fiscal discipline to New York City turning a $2.3 billion dollar deficit into a multi-billion dollar surplus. In 2001, Giuliani was named Time Magazine's Person of the Year for his leadership on and after the attacks on America on September 11th.

You rudy supporters cant have it both ways, first you say the president has no influence on these issues and i've shown that he does. To the social conservative base these are important issues and you can't just deflect them saying they will never come up, because they do. Rudy will sign any gun ban that goes to him, if there's a nother school shooting or something like that, dems will use it to try to pass another gun control measure and rudy will gleefully sign it. Wait till people play clips of his howard dean like speech about guns in florida.
Rudy is no fiscal conservative, i don't know why this myth is out there but everyone buys it. When he first ran for mayor he said promising not to raise taxes was political pandering.
On top of that in 1995 the city budget was 32 billion, in 2001 it was 38 billion. An 18.7% increase in spending.
Rudy left office projecting a 2.0 billion dollar deficit, and this was pre 9-11.
Under rudy, New york city had the 2nd biggest debt of any government entity in the nation(right next to the federal government). Its debt was 42 billion.
Contractual expenses doubled from 3.0 billion to 5.8 billion.
City employees went from 235,000 in 96 to 255,000 in 2001.
Rudy added 17,000 school employees and 2,000 employees to staff the city elected officials.
Rudy had very little if any sucsess in shrinking taxes, when Rudy left office New York City had the among the highest property taxes, city taxes, utiltiies among the entire nation.
So rudy is a social liberal and no fiscal conservative, why on earth would we ever nominate him? I dont know how this myth about rudy spread across the internet, everybody just assumes he's some kind of government shrinking conservative without looking into the facts.
There is a difference between rudy fans and non rudy fans. Yes, we acknowledge the WOT is important and rudy would do fine. BUT SO CAN THE OTHER CANDIDATES. Rudy is not the only candidate capable of prosecuting the war on terror. Just because the man threw hookers out of new york doesn't mean that he's more qualified than anybody else.
We conservatives will take somone whos good on the war on terror AND other issues. Why on earth would we take someone like rudy when he only has one strength? The war on terror isn't the only issue. For decades rinos told us the cold war was the only thing that mattered, and told conservatives to put their agenda on the back burner. Sorry, but we're not buying that BS this time around.
Rudy declared new york city a sanctuary city for illegal aliens. He fought the 1995 immigration law tooth and nail and took it all the way up to the supreme court and ignored it the whole way. In fact after he lost, a few days before 9/11, he instructed city officials to still disregard the law and continue to see new york city as a sanctuary for illegals.
I hope you don't have me on a list of Rudy supporters.
What gave you the idea I was a Guilliani supporter? I think the guy is about as conservative Hitlery C. and upChuckie Schemer
I saw Giuliani on BOR last night, too. My first thought was, he has had some "work" done. Around the eyes, some skin resurfacing, etc. Did anyone else notice that?
As if the South has uniformly great candidates! Last time I checked neither Carter nor Clinton came from New England!
Classy use of language.
California's last President was Ronald Reagan. Georgia's was Jimmy Carter. You also spawned LBJ and Bubba in the South. Lester Maddox was no bargain either. You also have Jihad Cindy to answer for.
Sure, there are plenty of liberal East of the Hudson and on the Left Coast. You have more than a few in Georgia, pal.
He was the mayor. Doesn't the Mayor do alot of functions they don't want to. I seriously believe that is the case. He probably was told to do this. What did he do walk in say hello and leave. Does that really make him unqualified for President?
Keep up the good work! Your family must be so proud.
I do my best even under your seemingly sarcastic remarks.
My remarks ARE sarcastic
Although I admit the picture was funny the first 257 (or so) times you posted it!
I apologize, i know your not a rudy supporter, i addressed the post originally to them, but then included you guys in it to bring up the point of fiscal responsibility.
