Mel Gibson asks Jewish community for help 'healing'
Haaretz ^ | August 2, 2006 | AP

LOS ANGELES - Mel Gibson said yesterday he is not a bigot or an anti-Semite, and that he apologizes to "everyone in the Jewish community for the vitriolic and harmful words" he used when he was arrested for drunken driving early Friday. "Hatred of any kind goes against my faith," he said in a statement released through his publicist Alan Nierob. "I Advertisement "I'm not just asking for forgiveness," Gibson said. "I would like to take it one step further and meet with leaders in the Jewish community, with whom I can have a one-on-one discussion to discern the appropriate path for healing." It was the second apology the 50-year-old Oscar winner has issued through Nierob since his arrest. Gibson said he is "in the process of understanding where those vicious words came from during that drunken display," and hopes members of the Jewish community, "whom I have personally offended," will help him in his recovery efforts. "There is no excuse, nor should there be any tolerance, for anyone who thinks or expresses any kind of anti-Semitic remark," Gibson said. "But please know from my heart that I am not an anti-Semite. I am not a bigot. Hatred of any kind goes against my faith."

I have to point out that many liberals/leftists were for the wor in Iraq and many conservatives against it. Mel Gibson strikes me as a social issue conservative -- heck, he's even anti birth control.

Also, I fear that if his career does get destroyed in Hollywood all that will do is confirm the view many people have that Hollywood is an extension of the Jewish community. If that occurs you can believe that is will only create more anti-Jewish attitudes (especially in Latin America and the Middle East).

I hope the Jewish community can forgive him and let this incident go away and that Mel can get help so he won't endanger people on the roads again.

Oh please, you give him too much power. He is an actor and a producer of films.I did not see the Passion.I read the book 20 years ago and knew no man could match it.He did what was in his heart but he is just a man there is no movement behind him but I pray for him.

I think Mel is just upset because he`s starting to look like Bruce Willis, so naturally it`s the fault of the Joos.

The nation of Israel has allowed Arabs and Muslims to live there, just as the same as any other and to have a good life. I have an Arab friend in Haifa, and I do want the best for him too.

Oh please. This is why Jews keep getting marched off to death camps, they continue to embrace their enemies trying to do the right thing. Jews need to know and accept who hates them and simply shun them. I'm tired of seeing Jews march to their deaths because they want to remain true to the Talmud and, "on the one hand" know that this is the bigot bent on their destruction yet...."on the other hand", the scales of justice ask that we do the right thing and give them all the chance in the world to make right.

You cant make right idiots and bigots.

Sorry, Mel. There's no such thing as "forgiveness" in the public eye. You will be hated for this the rest of your life, and no matter what you do, your actions will always be remembered.

Thank you, that's what should be. I'm tired of excuses like alcoholism, "my father was a nut job", and I had an unhappy childhood being excuses for this kind of behavior. Let him be forgiven by his family and his community in Australia, where he can now go. My guess is the Jews in Hollywood made him a very rich man. For him to utter these statements at this time is unbelievable. (And yes, "a drunk mouth speaks a sober mind.")

Oh please, what a sorry bunch of B.S. excuses. It's all in there, right out of the "Hail Mary, Jesus loves you, Alcoholism is a disease" playbook, isnt it? Feel free to pray for him but you're praying for the wrong souls. His timing will probably contribute to more Jewish deaths than ten of those bombs Hezbollah keeps firing. Jesus died on the cross for his turn the other cheek mentality. Gibson's career should, too. Then he can really know what suffering is!

Who knows whether Israel has "a right to exist." Does the USA have a "right to exist"? Do China and Bulgaria and North Korea have a "right to exist"?
My point is that it is not about "rights". It is a matter of whose "realities". There are evolution-deniers equally from christists and islamicists.

Oh great, a mush-headed liberal. What on earth is your tangential rant supposed to convey? Evolution?? What does evolution have to do with this? You sound like 1) the kind of Jew who keeps getting us all marched to the death chambers (one the one hand...on the other hand.); 2)a moral relativist and, worst of all; 3) a "tangentialist" (my word) Your second point has NOTHING to do with your first. In short, it doesn't make any sense- and neither do you.

"Jesus died on the cross for his turn the other cheek mentality"

I don't think so.

Actually he died for our sins, and he did so willingly.

You had too much to drink too?

Mmmm... I take your point - I think the language of 'rights' has been hijacked by the liberal left. I certainly do not mean 'right' in the way they do.

But yes, 'reality' will do well enough.

While not excusing his actions, I believe Mr. Gibson is under Satanic attack. We are all sinners by nature and by choice and none of us are above acting sinfully.

I am also praying for him and encourage all on FR who name the name of Jesus Christ to be praying for him as well.

Oops seems I've pushed some buttons.

To be honest I have never followed Mel's career so I am not too up on his general character.

That said, I do find these kind of questions hard to sort out in my head (I've admitted that much above). I come from a very liberal background and I guess it still lurks in some areas. Maybe that isn't the type of confession you usually get on FR but it's honest enough and I hope it is taken that way. I find international and economic events easier to be decisive about. Maybe I will just listen and not post on these kinds of threads for a while and see what kind of conservative opinion feeds into them
.

Continuing my education I guess..

kind regards.

Perhaps Mel could call Jesse Jackson (inventor of the drive-by penance,) for a few tips.

I don't understand what you mean by this-- would you please explain? Does "his" refer to Mel Gibson? I can't follow what you are saying here.

Mel is in no way conservative. Those feelings are obviously in him and alcohol let them out for the world to hear about. Let's hope he truly comes around. But hasn't he also been slamming Bush recently with his new movie and saying how Bush and his "gang" are relying on fear and killing? He's a bit messed up anyways. I'm no longer a fan of his because I think he may be doing some PR but he's got some twisted thinking and hatred in there.

He reacted with anger, indignation, embarrassment, with every sort of explosive emotion he possessed.

Add to that that the arresting officer is Jewish, and you can see why he might use Jewish slurs when he was stopped by the police. I still wonder about why he's not a misogynist for calling the female officer "sugar tits".
