This morning President Bush traveled to the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland for his annual physical. He was declared in good health, but has gained a bit of weight (four pounds) which he attributed to 'too many birthday cakes.' Doctors put him in the superior category of fitness for men his age.
Some of the fun details.........(excerpted from Reuters......)
The nearly 6-foot Bush weighed in at 196 pounds, up from around 191.6 pounds last year.
A fitness enthusiast, Bush rides his mountain bike several times a week and also does elliptical training, free-weights, stretching and low-impact workouts on a treadmill.
Mountain biking became his favorite sport after he had to give up running three years ago because of knee problems.
Bush's body mass index is 26.6 under a formula used by the National Institutes of Health. A BMI of 25 or above is considered to be overweight though the index does not account for extra muscle mass.
"The president remains in excellent health and fit for duty. All data suggest that he will remain so for the duration of his presidency," a summary of the medical report said.
The president's resting heart rate was 46 beats per minute, well below the average of range of 60 to 85 and consistent with someone in very good physical shape.
His blood pressure was 108/68 and his cholesterol was 174, both normal levels. His cholesterol level was down from 178 last year.
Bush, who celebrated his birthday at a Fourth of July dinner at the White House, was given a total of seven cakes during the week he turned 60, according to White House spokesman Tony Snow.
Asked about Bush's weight gain, Snow said, "My guess is he's determined to lose it."
Last year's physical exam found that Bush had lost eight pounds (3.5 kg) after his weight had crept up to 199.6 pounds (90.5 kg) in December 2004, an increase he blamed on the presidential campaign that year. (end excerpt)
First Lady Laura and daughters Barbara and Jenna were spotted in Alaska at the Denali National Park and Preserve on vacation, and it was confirmed by the National Park Service there. (It's hard to hide when you're the wife of the President!)
Enjoy your trip to Sanity Island on the Daily Dose!!
Whoops 12 1/4 stone
Wow! That sounds soooooo good. I love blackberries!...and ice cream! :D
Sad but I would say in a way a blessed release.
Dad and I are doing OK much better for the cooler weather.
Tony is the best thing to EVER happen to the White House press corpse!
Is it crystal glass ?
Glad I missed it
Our electric company just can't handle this heat.
I'm probably going to sign off before too long.
Thank you
Whoops sorry got even worse sorry and congratulations on the weight loose that must have taken some effort.
I have just lost about 18 with another 18 to go.
He does things like call the President 'shrub' (repeatedly)......and attack the "Mission Accomplished" sign (which is a direct insult to our TROOPS!).
He just regurgitates the leftist line and pretends that he admired Reagan. I don't know why he's still around, to tell you the truth.
He ain't no conservative......that's for sure!
I can't get over how much "W" weighs!
He's such a little guy!
How can he hide that much weight? Maybe his muscles weigh a lot?
With the lack of W and Laura news lately (together that is) --- how about everyone naming their favorite W and Laura moment! :-)
We have blackberry bushes the length on side of the garden and about quarter of the other.
I picked about 2lbs on Sunday and another half pound today. I think there will be another pound or so in a couple of days.
Thanks
He's just extremely fit, that's all. Muscular, but lean.
I think they were having similar problems in London the other day
I am glad you are both doing well. And the cooler weather has to be a welcome relief. Ours is still in the 90s but that is so much better than the 100s that we had for nearly 2 weeks in a row. Ick!
Yes he is! I have so enjoyed him taking those egomaniacs down a peg or 10! LOL! Especially David Gregory and Helen Thomas. That is just pure entertainment! :D
