This morning President Bush traveled to the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland for his annual physical. He was declared in good health, but has gained a bit of weight (four pounds) which he attributed to 'too many birthday cakes.' Doctors put him in the superior category of fitness for men his age.
Some of the fun details.........(excerpted from Reuters......)
The nearly 6-foot Bush weighed in at 196 pounds, up from around 191.6 pounds last year.
A fitness enthusiast, Bush rides his mountain bike several times a week and also does elliptical training, free-weights, stretching and low-impact workouts on a treadmill.
Mountain biking became his favorite sport after he had to give up running three years ago because of knee problems.
Bush's body mass index is 26.6 under a formula used by the National Institutes of Health. A BMI of 25 or above is considered to be overweight though the index does not account for extra muscle mass.
"The president remains in excellent health and fit for duty. All data suggest that he will remain so for the duration of his presidency," a summary of the medical report said.
The president's resting heart rate was 46 beats per minute, well below the average of range of 60 to 85 and consistent with someone in very good physical shape.
His blood pressure was 108/68 and his cholesterol was 174, both normal levels. His cholesterol level was down from 178 last year.
Bush, who celebrated his birthday at a Fourth of July dinner at the White House, was given a total of seven cakes during the week he turned 60, according to White House spokesman Tony Snow.
Asked about Bush's weight gain, Snow said, "My guess is he's determined to lose it."
Last year's physical exam found that Bush had lost eight pounds (3.5 kg) after his weight had crept up to 199.6 pounds (90.5 kg) in December 2004, an increase he blamed on the presidential campaign that year. (end excerpt)
First Lady Laura and daughters Barbara and Jenna were spotted in Alaska at the Denali National Park and Preserve on vacation, and it was confirmed by the National Park Service there. (It's hard to hide when you're the wife of the President!)
Enjoy your trip to Sanity Island on the Daily Dose!!

Did you re-size them or is that how they were?
Freep mail to you
You're 'baby' is quite a HUNK!
[Obviously, he gets his looks from dad and his toughness from mom!]
Yes, that should read "your" not "you're" . . . I need to take a brief nap -- been battling a tough head ache all day!
What a beautiful baby, with a lovely smile.
Many thanks to him for his service and to you for raising such a responsible young man, willing to put his life on hold in order to serve his country.
2 1/4 stone for someone who exercises regularly and has no obvious sign of fat to me is not that heavy I would have thought was about right.
I agree as the article says muscle weight heavier than fat and for a 6 foot person who does physical exercise I would thought it was about average.
Glad the troll got zotted what was his beef?
That is a great picture..he looks so relaxed and happy. I like those kind.
He must have gained a few pounds since he mentioned eating too much cake. LOL!
I was thinking that - especially when they infered he will want to loose the extra 4 pounds I still have 18 to go before I am at target.
A pound of muscle is more condensed then a pound of fat. Someone who weights 196 and has a lot of muscle appears trimmer then someone who weighs 196 and doesn't workout at all. One of nature's jokes on us. :-)
I see he still has not sorted the date out :0) - great photos though
What is Fenton is it glass or pottery or what?
Tears can often be a release as long as we keep perspective and from your post I sense that you are.
God Bless you and the rest of the family.
What a nice-looking young man your son...my hero!...is! Thanks for sharing the pictures with us!
By the way I received this freep mail from Cyberant, sad in a way but in a sense I feel the tone of her message is also conveying a blessed release - similar to how I felt about my mother.

Please let the people of the "Dose" know that my mom passed away Sunday morning (7/30). She had been doing poorly for a couple of weeks, and her pneumonia and UTI just didn't seem to be responding to medication. For several days she had not been eating or drinking anything, and she was struggling to breathe. Aside from the antibiotics, they were giving her morphine to keep her comfortable, and she passed away while I was on my way to visit her (right after church).
Several of the nursing staff said they had prayed with her earlier in the morning.
I am confident that she is in a much better place, singing and laughing and enjoying herself - able to remember all her family again, and be with her husband. At 93, she has had a great life and been loved by a lot of people""""
Look at all that glitter!!
Thank you so much, Luv W!!
Hey........you're welcome, Mike!
