Imani Temple Renames a Portion of Willow St. as MLK Drive (Incredibly funny)

Imani Temple Renames a Portion of Willow St. as MLK Drive

A Lafayette church is making an aggressive move in its support of renaming Willow Street in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Imani Temple unofficially renamed its portion of Willow Street as MLK Drive.

That could cause problems for the men and women delivering mail around the city.

Sunday at Imani Temple #49, church officials took it upon themselves to place a Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive street sign in front of the sanctuary.

Church leaders say they expect things like postal service to still be delivered with the unofficial address.

Archbishop Augustus Stallings, Jr. says he does not want to see a situation where thousands of pieces of mail are piling up because the post office says it does not know where Martin Luther King Drive is. He says the U.S. Postal Service will know and it is in its best interest to bring the mail to the temple, so it can be delivered on time.

Postal officials say that might not be as easy as it sounds, especially since there's already an MLK Drive in Lafayette.

In a response from the postal service, regional manager, Daisey Comeaux tells TV 10 the postal service does not assign addresses or streets.

She says the post office will attempt to deliver every piece of mail as addressed.

And finally, she says there is currently no 201 MLK in the database.

Imani Temple leaders say they are launching a national campaign where organizations and individuals will send mail to the new address.

I believe it was comedian Chris Rock who said anytime you find yourself on Martin Luther King Drive, get off! Sounds like sound advice for the Temple.

I guess the current MLK street isn't good enough for them.

That's not the dumbest thing. "Imani" is the 7th day of Kwanzaa, and explicitly anti-Christian event. SO you have a CHURCH (Christian) called a TEMPLE (Pseudo-Jewish* or Pagan) named "IMANI" (anti-Christian).

(*Of course, the only Jewish Temple is THE Temple, so no Jew would ever call something a temple.)

I guess the current MLK street isn't good enough for them.

We have two black councilmen who want to change a major road into MLK street..keeps getting voted down..one of them even went so far as to take a magic marker and write "Marting Luther King Street" on his wooden dais before the council met..not surprisingly..he was NOT charged with vandalism..if you and I went to city hall and damaged city property..we would be prosecuted big time..

Oh, it gets better still... "Archbishop" Augustus Stallings is the name of the schismatic Catholic priest from Washington, D.C., who is basically the Grand Exalted Poo-Bah of the Moonies of the United States of America.

... that makes him a Catholic schismatic Moonie from Washington, self-proclaimed archbishop preaching in a temple named after an atheist holiday about the need to rename a street in Lafayette after a Baptist preacher, even though there's already a street with the same name.

I just checked the yellow pages. There are both a "Temple Beth El" and a "Temple Bat Yahm" here is South Orange County. Seems (Reform ?) Jews have no problems calling their synagogues "Temple".

This guy is full of it. I have renamed his renamed street George W. Bush Avenue.

If he can do it, so can I. And I'm renaming his church Hurricane Katrina Temple. That should get him a box full of money.
