Clinton Speaks of Ways to Revitalize Rural America
NY Times' Terrorist Tip Sheet ^ | August 1, 2006 | RAYMOND HERNANDEZ

CAMBRIA, N.Y., July 31 — Reaching out to rural voters in New York and elsewhere in the nation, Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton called on Monday for increasing federal support for struggling farm communities to revitalize rural America.

In a speech delivered on a 152-year-old family farm, Mrs. Clinton called for major federal investments to expand broadband Internet access in rural communities, promote the development of alternative fuel sources like corn-based ethanol and encourage medical school graduates to practice in agricultural areas.

“We can build a new rural future,’’ Mrs. Clinton said, after listing economic problems that she said have led many Americans to abandon rural life. “We can bring back our Main Streets. We can keep people, particularly young people, here.’’

The speech, given about 20 miles north of Buffalo at Robinson Farms, underscored efforts the senator has made to address the economic concerns in the traditional Republican strongholds of upstate New York.

In the speech, for example, Mrs. Clinton reminded her audience of the work she had done on behalf of the region, including the creation of an advisory panel that has helped her devise agricultural policy.

But, politically speaking, Mrs. Clinton’s effort to appeal to voters in this part of the state may have as much to do with 2008 presidential politics as it does with her re-election efforts this year. Her associates say that she and her advisers are well aware that capturing a substantial portion of the upstate vote could help her achieve a substantial margin of victory in November that could, in turn, give her momentum in advance of a potential presidential bid.

But as important, making inroads in the state’s Republican strongholds would demonstrate her broad political appeal, at a time when critics in both parties say she is too polarizing to win a...

Corn-based ethanol is NOT the ticket. For all of her high priced staff, she didn't get the message, or worse yet, they chose to ignore it and just pander to farmers.

Yeah, I'm sure rural voters are thrilled at the prospect of the Democrat party turning America into a French-style, secular socialist welfare state. Surely most of them see Clinton for the sick scumbag she is.

Mrs. Clinton called for major federal investments to expand broadband Internet access in rural communities

The Democrats have a big advantage in broadband availability to their traditional urban constituents. The GOP has made a fundamental error in failing to accomplish broadband deployment to rural areas.

So, Shrillary patted herself on the back for creating a panel to tell her about something she doesn't know anything about?

Scrappleface or not, thanks for the post. It was good for a good laugh :-)

With tongue in cheek I submit:
7. Huge farm subsidies
8. Outlaw urban sprawl
9. Legalize the crops that matter the most - opiates and hemp.

Anyone the least bit tempted should drive through Arkansas. It is the only place I have ever seen where the pop machines in rest stops on the interstate have anti-theft cages around them.

She had 8 years as co-President and 6 years as Senator (after a campaign in which she and Rick Lazio sounded more like they were running for governor than senator) to do something, one thing, about revitalizing rural America. 14 years later the only things she can come up with are broadband access as if Ma and Pa Kettle are still out there using two cans and a long string, and more corn subsidies to Iowa. I did notice how she managed to be consistent about one item over the 14 years: making sure to continue her central planning for healthcare.

"CAMBRIA, N.Y., July 31 — Reaching out to rural voters in New York and elsewhere in the nation, Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton called on Monday for increasing federal support for struggling farm communities to revitalize rural America. "

So, you voted for her because she offered you a plan. Six years later, the plan didn't work. So here she is offering you the same plan, again.

And they will vote for her again. I have no sympathy for stupid people.

The speech, given about 20 miles north of Buffalo at Robinson Farms....

She didn't even have the guts to give her speech in one of the state's many RED bits.

Real C-in-C material there, all right.

SNORT.

How about this: CUT TXAES and give tax credits for businesses who let their employees relocate to Rural towns and telecommute??

Nahhh, that would make too much sense. Never mind!

And this is what our elected leaders do. Spend all of their time preparing and lying across America. When do we get the benefit of real leadership that cares about this country and it's people? If I were people I would stop going to their rallies and find candidates that fit the bill instead.
