Official Presbyterian Publisher Issues 9/11 Conspiracy Book
Christianity Today ^ | July 31, 2006 | Jason Bailey

The September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks were orchestrated by the U.S. government, according to a book to be released later this month by Westminster John Knox Press—a division of the denominational publisher for the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.).

Christian Faith and the Truth Behind 9/11: A Call to Reflection and Action is the third book on the subject by David Ray Griffin, a professor emeritus of theology at Claremont School of Theology who is also a well-published and prominent process theologian.

In his book, Griffin argues the Bush administration planned the events of September 11 so they could provide justification for going to war with Afghanistan and Iraq. He writes that although Christianity began as a specifically anti-empire gospel, the church has been silent about an imperialistic America—which he compares to the Roman Empire.

"I became more convinced that if the truth about 9/11 was going to be exposed, the churches were probably going to have to be involved," Griffin told CT. "If we become convinced that the so-called war on terror is simply a pretext for enlarging the American empire, we have every reason as Christians to try and expose the truth behind 9/11." Earl Tilford, a professor of history at Grove City College who specializes in the military and war, said it is dangerous for people who study religion to comment about national security and that Griffin "obviously knows very little about conspiracy theories."

"It does not surprise me that the PC(USA) press would publish his work," said Tilford, the former director of research at the U.S. Army's Strategic Studies Institute. "They are very anti-Israeli and very much inclined to anything that speaks ill of the administration."

Once again the national office of the PCUSA outdoes itself in with an embarrassing public relations fiasco.

What will they think of next?

How sad that anti-semitism would take this turn.

The enormity of such a alleged conspiracy would exceed even that of the kooks who proffer the JFK conspiracy. The huge gang of involved people in gov't and the military. It would impossible to protect such a secret just as there would now be having deathbed confessions of conspirators in the JFK thing. It isn't rhetorical to ask: Where are they?

There's a restaurant I go to in a suburb of Minneapolis. It's a small place and attracts the same clientele - many of whom hold conservative values.

About a week ago, a guy sitting next to me was telling me that Israel orchestrated September 11th.

I hardly knew what to say to the guy. It's one thing to be suspicious and it's another to engage in paranoia of any political stripe. But this guy was a Kool-Aid drinker of the 1st degree. He told me that he "had read all about it" and was convinced that Israel was to blame. I shook my head and replied that his story was a little hard to swallow.

Later, I asked one of the owners who this guy was. They told me that he was the semi-retired owner of a large construction company. I have to admit that I was surprised that someone with his level of education would bite so easily at the anti-Israel bait.

David Ray Griffen -- and just who is he? Another nobody that the MS media has brought to our attention. While he can say and write whatever he wants, those in responsible positions of news and its disemination should have exercised some discretion. The guy is NUTS! And his words only add fodder to the extreme left. Or, maybe, that's what the MS media wants???

Who knows. I gave up on PCUSA years ago, and haven't set foot back in that church since then. The only thing they haven't done that I can think of, (right now) is to claim that Satan is their Savior. LOL Of course, we KNOW that he is. They're so pathetic!!

That's the meaning I deduced from the article but I didn't know that it was possible to attain professional standing.

Level of education?

There are plenty of folks who dropped out of high school to dig ditches who wound up owning the construction company.

It's been going on for a long time, e.g. Sir Roger Scatcherd in Anthony Trollope's late Victorian novels.

There certainly are a lot of unanswered questions surrounding 9/11...The types of questions that plagued the likes of TWA 800, Waco, Ruby Ridge and the Murrah Federal Building investigations...

The questions are never complicated or out of the sphere of normal curiosity but it's the answers one gets that defy sanity...

The fact that this guy/group appears to be allied with muzlims takes away any credibility he may have had on this and mabye other topics...

Once again the PCUSA proves itself to be a joke. They really have turned into a parody of themselves. So sad. Once it was a great denomination (MANY years ago).
