A leading Republican senator urged US President George W. Bush to call for an immediate ceasefire in the war between Israel and the militant group Hezbollah in Lebanon.
"The sickening slaughter on both sides must end now. President Bush must call for an immediate ceasefire. This madness must stop," Nebraska Senator Chuck Hagel, a possible candidate in the 2008 presidential election, said on the Senate floor.
The Bush administration has been under pressure from Arab and European states to press Israel into halting its offensive, but has received relatively limited pressure from US lawmakers -- especially those in his own party -- to do the same.
Hagel said the US link to Israel was a "special and historic one." "But, it need not and cannot be at the expense of our Arab and Muslim relationships," he said.

So we must forgoe our special and historic relationship, so that our tenuous relationship with our arab and muslim partners strengthened by allowing them to destroy Israel? Makes a whole lot of F&$%ing sense.

What a complete limp-wristed, purse-swinging, bed-wetting POS this senator is. Those are his good points.

Hagel only became a "top Republican" when he started bashing the president. Good call.

Sen. Hagel (R-Beirut) needs to be primaried next time. This primadonna has McCain Syndrome: he thinks he's infallible on everything because he was in Vietnam.

The usual moral equivalence call. When it comes to knowledge of the Middle East, Chuck Hagel is a colossal, glittering jewel of ignorance. The two parties are NOT on the same moral plane and its obscene for Hagel to suggest Israel's defending herself is what's endangering the region and U.S interests there. Its Iran and Hezbollah that are challenging the West's will to resist the advance of Islamofascism. Hagel's the kind of patsy who's failed that test. You know who he sounded like? A Republican Jimmy Carter.

"Hagel is loyal only to hagel."
Actually, he is very close to Joe Biden and has more in common with the plagiarist than he does with Conservatives.
