Film star and director Mel Gibson has launched a scathing attack on US President George W Bush, comparing his leadership to the barbaric rulers of the Mayan civilisation in his new film Apocalypto.
The epic, due for release later this year, captures the decline of the Maya kingdom and the slaughter of thousands of inhabitants as human sacrifices in a bid to save the nation from collapsing.
Gibson reveals he used present day American politics as an inspiration, claiming the government callously plays on the nation's insecurities to maintain power.
He tells British film magazine Hotdog, "The fear-mongering we depict in the film reminds me of President Bush and his guys".
I don't think Christians would readily accept such a non-specific apology from Spielnerg had he been arrested for DUI and was accusing Christians of causing all the wars and asking the arresting officer if he were Christian
I'm not sure Gibson was ever with us.
Perhaps it is juvenille and phony. However these people have an awfully big megaphone from which to broadcast some very intemperate and extreme ideas. I think so long as that's the case, Freepers will continue to comment on the kinds of messages they put out.
Read up on him. Not only is he a repeat drunk-driver, but his self-contradictory religious views reveal mental competence issues.

Sympathy for what?
I guess I was a fool to believe that he was. Shame on me!
I didn't know he had a history of this to even know to do research on him. Thanks.
Hollywood will forgive praise Mel.
Tradition teaches slander is a grave offense which must be repented of and the record msut be set right. How one can do that absent specifically apologising to the Jews whom he singled out for slander is beyond me
Free speech is great. I love free speech. That wasn't my point. Many Americans are so engrossed and absorbed in modern pop culture, they let it rule their lives. Not only is that juvenile and and phony behavior, its petty and boorish. And consistent with the goals of many liberals.
Yes, you do have a point. Unfortunately people are more aware of what's going on with Brad and Angela or Tom and Katy than they are about the stakes in Iraq, the progress we've made there, the evidence Saddam did have WMD and worked with Al Qaeda and why it is we need to support Israel right now. It's why so many Americans are so confused about the world situation. They're too busy being distracted by the mundane. Anyway, you definitely are onto something with your comments.
I was thinking that too. No telling what the next one will be like. He just played right into their hands. No doubt they will team him up with Cartman.
It is a heresy for Catholics to believe that only Catholics can go to heaven. Mel is going against the mainstream Catholic Church and is in a breakaway Catholic sect.
Well, this should guarantee he wins an Academy Award AND, one day, a life achievement award!
"anyone who questions Zionism to be raving anti-semites"
What does "question Zionism" mean?
If it means that Israel does not have the right to exist as a Jewish country, then YES it is Anti-Semitism.
Anti-Zionism = Anti-Semitism.
What do you call it?
Please show me where Reiner and Streisand are "anti-Zionist as defined above?
Yep. I read his apology later on. Big time boo-boo.
He's definitely a hard one to figure out.
Exactly! I made Mel Gibson the lone exception among hollywood and I feel betrayed. If you want great movies and great acting, look no further than the greats of the past. My tv stays parked on TCM (Turner, what an irony) and I NEVER watch anything from today's hollywood. Today's stars suck, they make ne sick. Not a dime goes from me to their coffers to support their lib-leftist causes. Now Mel Gibson joins today's bunch as far as I'm concerned. NEVER TRUST THEM!

Me too.
My tv stays parked on TCM (Turner, what an irony) and I NEVER watch anything from today's hollywood.
Me too, for the most part.
My tv stays parked on TCM (Turner, what an irony) and I NEVER watch anything from today's hollywood.
Mel was my last hope for a Hollywood hero. I loved "The Passion" and my daughter and I cried together after seeing it. I almost feel worse about the 20 bucks I spent that day then the money I paid for Steisand's music back in the 70s.
Mel, you've gotten your last dime from me. You're a fake, a fraud, and worse. At least the Sean Penns and Alec Baldwins of the world make their views clear.
