Microsoft plans this week to charge a nominal fee for Office 2007 Beta 2 downloads. Consumers who download the 2007 Microsoft Office system Beta 2 will be charged US$1.50 per download, beginning Wednesday at 6 p.m. PDT, a Microsoft representative said.

Darn!!! people have to pay to test software for them? If they cannot afford the bandwidth to get so many people to download, and they think they have enough beta users, they should just cut off the beta! I dont understand such decision. haven't they have had enough bad press?

Except if they did, then that would be the only product they made that *didn't* suck.

My guess is that this is for purpose of putting a credit card number with your download and confirming who you are.

OpenOffice (the free version) and StarOffice (small fee, support) are pretty good, and they work with M$ files (even for the presentation software).
