Syria. No to "International Force" Zionist Proxy for Lebanon --- Syria on Saturday slammed Rice's call for an international force to pacify southern Lebanon as an occupation force that would do the Zionist regime's job.

Designed not just to tell Israel something, but also to slap the US foreign policy approach.

Today, either things begin to resolve, or things really start to fall apart.

Pray for Olmert.

The "doing war with no civilian casualties unless you are a freedom fighter" meme is being used to too much advantage.

I heard while driving in to work that President Bush made a speech (in Florida?) this morning and stated that a ceasefire without destruction of the terrorist threat is useless (I'm paraphrasing). Looks like he's standing firm, God bless him.

Maybe we should give Hezebola the advanced guidance systems required so their missiles will only hit military targets. /sarc

great post, DC.

My confidence is that Bibi will do whatever it takes to do whatever needs to be done.

He is not going to let a bunch of pansies dictate to him what is best in this PC world. He knows who and who does not have Israel's best interests in mind.

Remember too, that Dresden was the cultural center of Germany back then. All destroyed.

Compare that to the uproar over supposed lost antiquities...later proven to be false...of the Iraqi museums when we stormed Baghdad.

Well maybe not "stormed"....since we drove into town in figurative convertibles with the tops down. ;^)

Didn't the Hezz-a-ballou's have the opportunity to hit military targets when Israel massed tanks on the border? Instead the rockets continued to aim for the cities.

Interesting interview with SPIEGEL and Giora Eiland, 54, a general in the Israel Army reserves and former security adviser to prime ministers Ariel Sharon and Ehud Olmert. It is not as biased as title might indicate.

SPIEGEL: Is the once so feared Israeli Army losing its magic touch?

Eiland: This is not a normal war. It is a war between a state, Israel, and an organization, the Hezbollah. In such asymetric conflicts there is a natural gap between the expectations of politicians, journalists and citizens on the one hand, and the capabilities of the army on the other. There are four expectations: the operation will be short, the number of casualties low, there will be only few innocent victims on the other side and we can reach a decisive victory. This gap is a result of the use of the wrong terms and the wrong parameters.

....

SPIEGEL: Was the Israeli Army ill-prepared for war against Hezbollah?

Eiland: During the past six years, we didn't deal sufficiently with this kind of war. Certain capabilities were neglected. If a brigade commander leads a big military operation for the first time without ever having gone through a military exercise, during which he had to coordinate this amount of artillery, war planes and attack helicopters, one pays a certain price for that lack of experience. We had to draw our attention to many fronts, but the Hezbollah by contrast has only planned this single war. Fortunately, the Israeli Army knows how to learn new lessons quickly. And I hope that we will see results soon.

"International UN force" would be a US Army force. Quite frankly we have our hands full right now. Let the EU do it.
