and my second point is that France has a history of surrender, yes- even in modern days- they have a reputation for being afraid of angry Mulsims...which just so happens to be the population make up of that border (on the Lebanese side)...
and thirdly- I don't for a minute feel confident that the border can be secure with FRANCE in charge......In fact- from what I understand- it has been a French General (I think General is the rank) that has been in charge of the UN border operations there before this war broke out.
we ALL want a secure border...I just don't have any confidence in the French being able to provide that security.
It seems this is the route the world is going-- which makes me very very unhappy- I don't think the French gov't has Israel's best interest at heart.
Israel needs a force there that is dedicated to protecting Israel and defeating terror....
since it seems the French will be there- I really would love for you to put my mind at ease...sincerely...
please- make the case as to what it is about France that shows France is willing to risk lives and other nations not liking them- in order to truly defend Israel's border.
[I'm surprised he didn't relate it to the people in the Superdome in N.O. after Katrina hit. lol.]

Give him time!
#68, very Astute Post. Great rant. If everyone not involved in Terrorism would open their mouths and condemn it, it would almost cease to exist in a short time. They need to be condemned, ostracized, and run out of town on a rail in every Community in the World. The lefties have let this get out of hand, and they expect Conservatives to fix it,but with their stupid PC rules of engagement. As far as I am concerned Terrorists have zero rights.
What have you been smoking K the french couldn't even manage disorerly muslims destroying car after car in their own country! How are they going to manage true terror types?
Just let the French keep busy sewing white flags and making puff pastries, they will do just fine.
I don't have to make a case. If the multinational force is stood up and France is part of it, we will see the actual results. Then we can judge. Bush said that Lebanon and Israel must agree to whatever solution is reached, so Israel will make the decision on what is best for them. I understand that they do not want a UN force, but rather, one outside the UN and they want Western participation. Let's see what happens next week.
Wow great post Diogenesis!
Fortunately, neither you or I will make that decision. It will be up to Lebanon and Israel to approve the composition of the multinational force. I strongly believe that Israel will support French participation. Let's see who is right.
Absolutely agree I was very dissapointed when I heard Britain abstained.
I'd love to see the day that some guest asks him why he always quotes the NYT, when they have been so exposed for printing made up news.
#86,keep those slammin' posts coming, those $%%^&* U.N. Dorks need straight talk about just how worthless and corrupt they are. Maybe John Bolton will take a few of your posts and make them his own. LOL!
Of course maica, I can.
The Iron Chefs war on the Food Channel.
Mara Liasson (Sp??) made a comment about that, but even worse: "These people are civilians, they go outside and shoot a rocket, then 10 minutes later they are civilians again."
Amazing. This woman honestly thinks this is all like a force of nature, like water freezing and then melting again. No wonder the media doesn't get it. And no wonder the terrorists can hide behind women and children, and have the media admire them.
Term limits should start with the media types, even before the politicians.
Friedman is one of the DUMBEST commentators on the Middle East. This week, he argued that the only hope was that the 'Nations of Order' - France, China and Russia - band together to send heavy troops to separate the two sides.
He also bemoaned the fact that GWB failed to motivate the Nations of Order to deal with Iraq, Iran and Lebanon.
Now, just how STUPID do you have to be to believe that France, Russia and China would EVER band to gether to create order in the ME?
If he wasn't very drunk while writing the column, he should be banned from commenting on any foriegn affairs ever.
kabar- you are the one that claimed that France was the "ideal choice".......
Now you say you don't have to back that up?
okay- So I will tell you- they are NOT the ideal choice.
they are the equivilent of sending an elementary school brownie troop- or even worse- they are like sending HEZZIE supporters to the border. France has consistently thwarted America's attempts to use any and all diplomatic means to weaken terrorist....France folds quicker than cheap lawn furniture in the face of conflict...oh- unless it is in the Ivory Coast- one of their money making "colonies".....France has a history of supporting one of the world's most famous terrorists- Yasser.......They were up to their necks in the Oil for Food scandal and did everything they could to protect Saddam.....
TRUST FRANCE TO PROTECT ISRAEL FROM THE HEZZIES?
I think not.
I have lived overseas a total of 26 years in 9 different countries and travelled to nearly 60 more, including Israel. What most Americans don't realize is how different most of the world's view is on Israel compared to our own. Their sympathy is on the side of the arabs who are seen as the victims. Israel is viwed as the bully. Unfortunately, perception becomes reality. I am sure that is the case in the UK as well.
How about quoting the Grail Knight from Indian Jones and the Last Crusade?
That way, if there's any question about the grammer you can blame the person you quoted. I do that all the time when I can't think how to correctly phrase something. Citing someone also makes me seem smarter, too... <g>
Juan's viewpoint ia breathtaking as far as "solutions' go..It as though he is ignorant of history. This is why I want Brit as a panel member instead of the moderator.
Thanks samantha much appreciated.
I didn't take what she said as you did. I thought she was making the case for the inevitability of "civilian" casualties in that the "civilians" are the Hezzis.
Mara, IMO, has been tacking away from the Lib. view on the ME for the last few weeks.
