On the CNN special tonight...they had an interview with Robert McFarland...and he said that a strike was ordered on a bunker in the Bekaa Valley that was supposedly the hideout of the leadership of Hezbollah...and he and Ronald Reagan assumed it happened...
But, McFarland got a call that it didn't, and called Reagan, and Reagan was surprised it didn't...Caspar Weinberger admitted he called it off...the thinking being that the "Arab street" would get madder at America...
Well...even though Reagan was furious, he had been with Weinberger since Gov. days in Cal...so he "forgave and forgot"...so the show said.

So my anger about how the Reagan Whitehouse handled what was going on in Beirut should have been aimed at Cap, who I admired at that point in my life? Oy Veh! See what happens - all these twists and turns of fate that happen behind the scenes that we don't find out for years...
You are exactly right about the grandchildren part...
Unlike you..I didn't go to college and study this stuff...and kept myself ignorant...but I am trying to NOT be that way now.
That is one reason why I wish all could watch the CNN show tonight...(because of the Beirut connection)..and the Obsession video...because of the Hezbollah connection.
I truly fear what America will be like when my two beautiful little granddaughters are in their 20's and 30's..but, I have felt this dread since 9/11.
I would guess that possibly the reason for so many strikes is the reports that the UN will be writing some kind of (useless) resolution next week...and Israel needs to ratchet up their work.
The IDF wrapped up its operations in the southern Lebanese village of Bint Jbail on Saturday and withdrew most of its troops from the area. At the same time, the army was gearing up for a new ground incursion into Lebanon.
Also Saturday night, the IAF struck a road along the Lebanese border with Syria that the IDF said was being used by Damascus to smuggle weapons to Hizbullah.
At the same time, the IDF said it was investigating reports that a UNIFIL outpost had been hit by missiles. Two UN peacekeepers were wounded Saturday when an Israeli airstrike hit near their border post in southern Lebanon, The Associated Press reported.

There may be some truths to the CNN story but if you don't have the entire story, part is no good.

I worked in his headquarters here in San Diego and saw him several times when he first ran for Gov.
Well...not really....because they showed footage of several speeches that Reagan gave around the time of the barracks being bombed..and after the called off attempt to get Hezbollah...and in each speech he was saying that we can't just "cut and run"...because to do so would give the terrorists the idea that Americans don't fight back...
Yet, 3 days after the memorial for some of the returned bodies of the Marines...Reagan didn't give a speech, he wrote a note...that was released to the press, as he landed at his California ranch for a vacation....telling them that he had ordered the Marines pulled out of Beirut.
This is what was said tonight on that special.

I wish you would...because you seem to know a lot about that time...and you could let me and the others that watched it know what, if anything, CNN got wrong.

Police: 25 rockets fired at Kiryat Shmona within an hour
Police say that 25 Katyusha rockets landed in Kiryat Shmona within an hour on Saturday morning.

I was so mad about the pullout and why we didn't go kick butt...about the same time they kidnapped some Russians and the KGB showed how to deal with that type of situation...I was not impressed with us.
