California heat wave death toll tops 120 (CA the new Europe)

FRESNO, California (AP) -- The death toll from California's record-breaking heat wave rose to 123 Friday as weather forecasters announced that, for the first day in nearly two weeks, the temperature would stay below 100 degrees across most of the state.

The vast majority of the deaths have been elderly people whose bodies don't cope as well in the heat, county coroners said.

But there have also been younger people. A 38-year-old gardener collapsed on the job and died last week. On Wednesday, two brothers, ages 57 and 68, were found dead in a Bakersfield home without air conditioning.

The entire state has been sizzling in triple-digit temperatures since July 16. Only Friday were the heat advisories finally lifted and meteorologist said the heat wave appear to be nearing its end.

"By Monday, Tuesday we'll be even cooler than normal," said Mike Delman, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service. In the extended forecast, "It might warm up a bit, but nothing like what we had."

Very sad.

Triple digit temperature is not a stranger to Bakersfield or the valley. I wonder what the two brothers in Bakersfield did differently this year than previous years when the temp was above 100 degrees.

A friend in Oakland said he got the last portable air conditioner at Fry's and was offered double in the parking lot. Now they are looking at a generator because of unstable power supplies - they have two babies and can't let it get to 110 degrees in their nice but non air conditioned home

More supply to meet the demand please.

One would think the envirowackos are hoping for a larger death count since they believe humans are a bane to "mother earth" and all that stuff.

I have been hearing and reading only on the national news about these heat related deaths in California. Here in San Diego, there's been nothing on our local news about this event. To me this brings up issues of what is considered newsworthy, and by whom, and who makes decisions about what is on the news.

Cities grow = progress

Rules and regs for cities require paving = progress

The more pavement = more heat

...even little 'ol Flagstaff, once a cool place to be in the AZ summer time is mostly paved, must have air conditioning now....and so it goes.

68 is now considered "younger". That makes me feel better.

Actually very pleasant in the Bay Area the last two days. The Fog is back!

More people have died in California from the heat than have died in Israel from Kyusha rockets fired by terrorists from from Lebanon. But that's not the terrorists' fault. The terrorists who control Lebanon plan to fire 13,000 rockets at Israel cities. So far about 50 Israelis have been killed by 1500 rockets fired by the terrorists.

Kyusha rockets are unguided and cannot even be aimed except in a general direction. With 11,500 rockets still to be fired the Israeli death toll will probably go up especially if larger range rockets hit Tel Aviv.

The terrorists have so far won a complete victory by proving that they can hit Israel at will and that the West is helpless to stop them. Now the terrorists strategy seems to be to get the U.S. the U.N. or some other Western force to come in and aid the terrorists and stop Israel from defending itself.

Lebanese citizens in the number of around 500 have been killed by Israeli air and artillery strikes. Those deaths are the direct fault of the terrorists. Syrian and Iran are backing the terrorists who fight from behind the civilian population. Lebanese citizens are being used as human shields. It would be interesting to know how many Hezbollah terrorists have been killed.

Officials were "shocked" that "our customers" USE electricity?? So now their deaths are on our heads? Maybe if they'd acknowledge how many actual illegals are here...and instead of telling people not to use their appliances,-- not even to use water in the daytime because "it could use electricity to get it to you," I actually heard that this week,-- why not plan to meet actual usage??

Bakersfield is one of the hottest desert places in the nation. Much of S. Cal is citified desert, and we should expect heat. This is not some glamourous place to live.

This going to be milked for global warming 'proof.' We'll probably have the same amount die from the cold in winter.
