Cake thrower risks 15 years (Norway)

A student who threw a cake at Finance Minister Kristin Halvorsen last October has been charged with committing a crime against the Norwegian Constitution.

The cake attack occurred outside of the Finance Ministry on Halvorsen's first day in office, and the new minister was hit squarely in the back of the head.

Afterwards the student came forward in newspaper VG and said he had thrown the pastry in order to stimulate debate about whether Norway was well served by having a minister of finance from the Socialist Left Party.

The question of what the 24-year-old student would be charged with has been left up to the Director of Public Prosecutions, and the final decision carries a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison.

"We ended up with a relatively serious charge," chief public prosecutor Marit Bakkevig told VG.

The student from Valdres has been charged with violation paragraph 99 of the Criminal Code, hindering a member of the government from carrying out their duties. The man is also charged with assault and defamation by frightening or bothersome behavior.

Halvorsen has been summoned as a witness for the trial, which is scheduled to be held in Oslo on Oct. 11.

The man, who has maintained that the cake flinging was an innocent prank, was completely unprepared for the backlash of the stunt and has since dropped his studies and lost his job.

I guess the seriousness of the charge depends upon whose ox is getting gored.

If it were one of Norwegian grandmother's cakes, it would be assault with intent to commit great bodily harm. Ha. This is funny.

Isn't Kristin Halvorsen the moonbat finance minister who thinks that it is one of her duties to call for a boycott of Israel? Perhaps that student should get a medal instead…

That is one of my all time greatest movies, I have the DVD and I swear I must watch that flick about once a month. It`s just so well made and intense, just the ultimate movie about paranoia.

Yes, it's tough carrying out your duties as a Socialist government official with cake on the back of your head.

By the way, both foam and butter cakes lend themselves to limitless variations and usages.

While I generally deplore Europe's softness on crime, this possible penatly seems excessive!

Socialists are not as tolerant of competing political viewpoints as the rest of us.

Assuming they lived, I think someone who "pied" any US President would be looking at at LEAST this amount of time.

Apples and oranges there, though, sir.

I doubt if a DUmmie pied the U.S. Secretary of Transportation, or the U.S. Secretary of Commerce, the DUmmie would get 15 years.

I think they would be looking at some serious time, though. In the 5 year area.

Hitting someone with a pie or cake is assalt and battery. Of course, hitting someone with a fruitcake is ADW.
