Let us create a future of infinite possibilities devoid of the agenda of the social engineers who work their corruption on us thru the one way world of television . A world where anything is possible , but not everything is possible . Anything can happen , but not all things can happen at once . That is what 'Time' is for , to keep all things from happening at the same moment . That shall be the only rule of our new fantasy world . That an event happens only once . What has been done , cannot be undone . There is no turning back the sands of time . You can review the past but you cannot change the past . That a vision of a possible future - to the present , must be taken in the context of the present . A Cosmos not governed by compassion or tolerance or equality , but common sense and merit . A Universe of strange and totally new lifeforms and not distorted reflections of human characters , just to make some social allegory ---- THAT is the insipid barren road of Political Correctness that Sci-fi entertainment has been a slave to for so many years . The future is not the current events of our world thrown into Outer Space . The future is not with the Liberals , not with the Multiculturalists (both hate America) , and it is certainly not to be found in some cheapo TV production made in Canada ! The future is not written , the future is unformed . . .

Sounds more than reasonable, to me.

I thought Lexx ended in 2002.

I have a huge collection of older sci-fi. Nothing current has been much worth reading , imo. I love the old stuff.

In terms of books, it may have gone downhill, but Lexx was a silly show.
Stargate SG1 and even Atlantis are better than Lexx. PS. What was wrong with Babylon 5 other than the cultural relativism?

That's OK. With the mad rsuh by liberals for embryonic stem cell genocide American society will become an unending campy B Science Fiction movie.

L Sprague de Camp, IMHO, one of the greatest fantasy writers of the 20th century

There are three good series of "bar" stories.

Spider Robinson's Callahan's Crosstime Saloon, Niven's Spaceport Bar stories plus The Oldest Profession, and Asimov's Tales From The White Hart.

I'd do them up as one season of shows, loosely organized like Twilight Zone or Night Gallery.

Lots of room for jokes, latex aliens, music, fun.

Anyone have any suggestions of the best of the best of science fiction published within the last few years?

As a kid (20 years ago), I read the usual, Asimov, Heinlein, etc. I recently meandered through the bookstore's scifi section, and did not have a clue as to which books were worth reading.

Again, any best of lists published post 2000?

Thanks!

Didn't know there were so many scifi fans on FR. Cool.

I stopped reading scifi at Clarke and Heinlien.

One more thing - what are the titles of good science fiction movies made in the past five years? I've seen all the classics and I'm looking for DVDs to watch on Satuday nights.

Maybe they should make a show based on Heinlein's Starship Troopers, instead of slapping the name on a bad Orkin Man nightmare.

Blah! I like Blade Runner and just about every bleak insane future P.K. Dick cooked up. Looking forward to seeing them ruin "A Scanner Darkly".

The vast majority of sci fi has had a white male as the leading character. Janeway and the black guy in deep space nine are the only exceptions that I can think of.

otherwise it is has been a steady diet of captain kirk, scott blacula, commander adama, captain picard, etc.
