British Foreign Secretary Margaret Beckett has protested to the US about its use of Prestwick Airport in western Scotland to transport bombs to Israel.SNP leader Alex Salmond claimed the UK government must decide whether to "be an aircraft carrier" for the US.
The Lib Dems suggested the Americans were taking the UK for granted.Mr Salmond said that "with an escalating Middle East conflict", it was ill-advised to send bombs "to arm one side in that conflict to the teeth, at a time when hundreds of civilians, many children, United Nations observers, have already been eliminated, killed, by similar weapons"."If these reports are true, it is particularly provocative for the United States to have acted in this way," he said.
"It can only reinforce the belief of many that Britain is taken for granted in the so-called special relationship.
"Who knows how many of these munitions may be used to cause the kind of damage to Lebanon which the prime minister of that country described in Rome as cutting his country to pieces."

Wasn't this just a layover and refueling flight?
Convoy HX 84.... HMS Jervis Bay the German surface raider Admiral Sheer and the aviation fuel tanker San Demitrio.
Thats what us Brits are all about I would have thought you colonials had learnt that by now
We are not 'generally in favour'of killing anybody. Thats the point.
WOW!! It's one thing to have your Biryani a couple of nights a week, but that's a bit much.
I haven't lived in Britain for over twenty years. Things must have changed drastically - if you are right.
FRegards,
Your right it is laughable but the only people that don't seem to be laughing at the idea are the appeasing councils, quangos, local pressure groups and goverment officials that have a dangerous tendency to take the fanatics of sharia seriously.
They really believe that these islamists have good points to make and are an asset to society in some perverse way, I know this for a fact cos my mum has been a social worker for 25 years (it's made her very conservative over the time) and she's seen all this sh**t go off first hand especially in the areas where the BNP were recently successful in local elections.
Let's go right to the meat. Would GB have defeated the Nazi's if the US military had stayed out of WWII? And don't forget that the Lend-Lease agreement allowed the US to support the Allies (including GB) before we even officially entered the war.
Ahh, so we are still colonials in your eyes. Thats all I needed to know about the mindset of anti-US feelings. I hope you enjoy being ruled over by the franco-german axis aka EU, because Brussels will be calling the shots for you guys in the future, not London. I'll stay over here in my colonial hovel and be a freeman in a sovereign nation. Enjoy guys you earned it. ;)
LOL!
Royal Navy should in itself be a clue to the victory of why we won!
The English Channel
Nobody ever points out when they talk about WW11 about the role that this fifty mile stretch of water played. A proper organised ground offensive by the Germans was never possible unlike what happened in continental Europe and USSR.
Ofcourse you are not still colonials in our eyes. Just some mild humor.
And as for being anti US you should Know where two of my closest family members are serving right now........research my 'tagline'!!!!
As for the EU well there is 20 miles of sea between them and us and thats not going to change. Anyway I take my holidays in the US have previously lived and worked there for a year and have family in 5 different States . Take a look at my homepage.
What I don't see is you guys getting so worked up by some silly remarks by a soon to be retired 3 rate politition.
Why shouln't we question why our civilian airports are used by US military forces wouldn't you do the same regardless..Im sure you would and if you didn't then a poorer nation you be for it. Doesn't mean we are all going to turn to Mecca 5 time a day. You are a sovereign nation but also a confederation of 50 different States.
You are welcome nevertheless.
Thats a welcome correction.
As far as this looney bitch goes who cares what she says or thinks? The weapons went through.
Could the USA have defeated Germany if Great Britain HAD been occupied?
"British Foreign Secretary Margaret Beckett has protested to the US about its use of Prestwick Airport in western Scotland to transport bombs to Israel.SNP leader Alex Salmond claimed the UK government must decide whether to "be an aircraft carrier" for the US."
I guess their "masters" in Londonistan are pulling their strings.
Excluding the bomb, I seriously doubt it. It took both GB and the US to achieve full and complete victory. It didn't hurt that Hitler had a few gaffes along the way.
Yes and we're grateful to the US for their help in defeating the Third Reich as well.
It gets tricky when you talk about the USSR and how much we should extend the hand of thanks to them though.......
Isn't that the truth!
