LOS ANGELES (Reuters)-The U.S. government's crackdown on media indecency could prevent World War Two veterans from sharing their stories in an upcoming TV documentary series by Ken Burns, the head of the Public Broadcasting Service said on Wednesday.
Noted filmaker Burns' highly anticipated seven-part series "The War" features salty language used by servicemen and others. If the explecitives make it to air, they could lead to crippling fines for the offencing stations as a result of a new law signed last month by President George W. Bush.

If Burns shows what the Japanese really did to their POWs...and then
doesn't make the whole Japanese Nation out to be the victims of those
war-mongering, A-bomb-droppin' Americans...
I'll be shocked and pleased.

My dad, now gone, fought in Europe. First wave at Utah, Battle of Normandy, liberation of Paris, Hurtgen Forest, Battle of the Bulge, occupation of Germany. His unit took over 200% casualties during that time.
His language was routinely as salty, colorful, and profane as it gets, even around us when we were small children during the 50's. There never was a more loving father, nor a more moral man. That's just the way it is, even if some people don't understand.
As long as the language isn't gratuitous in the film, and I really doubt that it is, there shouldn't be a problem.
If there is, bleep out the offending words, but sell the video uncensored.

"Those men who fought in WW2 (including GWB Sr) have more class than any suit in either Washington DC or Hollyweird." I meant to add a parallel thought, anyone on this thread who thinks their morality is higher than that of these old guys who fought in WWII ought to rethink that right away.

Did you hear the one about how the FCC wants something like 30 game tapes for previous sporting events and anywhere the crowd or a player might have said a NAUGHTY word, they will turn around and fine whichever stations aired it.

You know, every time a word is "bleeped" I can usually tell what was said anyway. Doesn't bother me or detract from the information if it is a documentary. It would bug me if it were a movie where you must "suspend disbelief". If one wanted the "un-cut" version rent it from the library or video store I guess. I'm not a fan of censorship, but this is a way to please most everyone I think. It's not as if they are making something completely unavailable.

Now that's reaching, IMHO. How could a station possibly have control over a patron in the stands? Geesh...

I don't know of any President who ended a term with less government, and fewer laws. Do you? Reagan did. Only one.

Don't ask me.
There's no way it will ever stand up in court either I don't think.

First off how many young kids are going to be watching the program anyways? I bet not many, as most kids these days don't give a damn about history.
I'm betting it isn't just cussing they want to censor but any so called racial slurs that might have been used.
They can air a bleeped out version earlier in primetime and then follow it with the original with a warning.

I believe the correct spelling for what's on a farm animal was spelled "teats".
I believe you're right, but t*ts was still spelled tits.
