So states César Nava, Adjutant Secretary General of the white and blue1, that this self-proclamation is in the style of Antonio López de Santa Ana.
The National Action Party (PAN) assured today that the statement of the presidential candidate of the For the Good of All coalition, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, given to the Univision channel:2 "Yes, I am the President of Mexico. I am the President of Mexico by the will of the majority," is "one more occurence of a messianic impudence."
César Nava Vázquez, Adjutant Secretary General of the PAN Party, said that this self-proclamation is "in the style of Antonio López de Santa Ana," and asserted that "a true democrat respects the Mexican majority, the electoral authorities, [and] the peaceful solution of conflicts."
He added in a press conference that "it is clear that Mr. Lopez Obrador insists in his longing, in his intention, and in the absence of the majority will to turn to a statement like this. A true democrat does not comport himself in the way he is doing, it is only out of necessity, so that his obsession that someone will name him President, that he named himself.
Nava said that for the PAN Party is it clear that Lopez Obrador "has now decided not to talk3 and we lament that very much."

Translator's Notes:
1The PAN Party is sometimes referred to by its colors, white and blue, or in Spanish blanquiazul.
2In an interview with Univision Lopez Obrador declared himself to be the "President of Mexico by the will of the majority." The Spanish language article giving the details is at: http://www.eluniversal.com.mx/notas/364801.html
3Over the past several days Lopez Obrador has repeatedly declared he is willing to enter into dialog with Felipe Calderon and the PAN Party, and Calderon and PAN responded positively to the offer, but Lopez Obrador insisted that the talks must be preconditioned upon Calderon and PAN accepting Lopez Obrador's call for a hand recount of all of the 41 million plus ballots cast in the presidential election. PAN has pointed out that decision is a matter that can only be handled under Mexican law by the Electoral Tribunal which is currently addressing the challenges Lopez Obrador and his coalition have submitted on a case by case basis and they are not moving to handle each of those challenges by a hand recount.
Meaning you have been well-fed virtually your entire life...
That's exactly what it means okie01. A fine shrimping season was just concluded here a few weeks ago. About the only good thing Hurrican Rita -- the one that clipped me here in Lafayette -- brought with her was an improvement in the shrimp harvest out of Vermillion Bay, which is just south of me, about 30 - 35 miles or so. I have a good friend who got into the mix of the shrimp harvest and for the first time in a long time, probably over fifteen years, I had fresh Louisiana white shrimp coming out of my ears. I did it all; etoufée, gumbo, sauce piquante, fried, stuffed, and more. I've been paying for that with my workouts since then, gotta make room for more down the road.
Wouldn't want to let all those fine shramps go to waste now, would we?
The things that FARC did in Colombia are appalling - and 100% typical of leftist strategy.
I think you're right and that the destruction of the Mexican economy will be the next objective of AMLO if he can't manage to steal the presidency.
Senor Lopez Obrador es muy loco.
None of those shramps went to waste okie01. My neighbors ate very well too.
Thanks! You're right, it's an excellent blog, full of good analysis. I was thinking how odd it is that we in the US generally have so little awareness of what is going on in Mexico. Granted, it's a complicated situation, but certainly, as the bloggers point out, it didn't come out of nowhere and the conditions for it have been building for years.
Here's the kind of Mexico we can expect if ObraGore gets to take over...it's an exposé on corruption in the Chavez government down in oil-rich, anti-American Venezuela:
