"The best food in the world is served within a fifty mile radius of Lafayette..."

Well okie01, it so happens I agree with you. My late mother's family down here are true Cajuns and the eating has always been quite excellent. It's the food I grew up on and which I continue to enjoy to this day.

A side note for you, since I see you are an Okie. My Mom left Louisiana to enter the University of Tulsa where she met and married my Dad. And it so happens I was born in Tulsa as well. After my Dad graduated my Mom insisted that the family move back to Louisiana so I've been here -- absent my time abroad as a young man -- since the age of 2 1/2 yrs.

"This is exactly what Algore did in the 2000 elections"

Well of course you're correct AKSurprise, though I would suggest Mexico is a difference of degree. AMLO's intimidation of everyone threatens the very peace of the country. I saw a political cartoon on the El Universal web site last week where Felipe Calderon is sitting there telling everyone that "the peaceful people in Mexico will win out" or something like that and seated right next to him is a big gorilla named "Congress of Labor" which refers to the Labor Party in Mexico, which is not exactly a peaceful group. I'm going to see if I can find that cartoon and show it to the board. If I do find it, I'll ping you to come take a look.

...so I've been here [Louisiana] -- absent my time abroad as a young man -- since the age of 2 1/2 yrs.

Meaning you have been well-fed virtually your entire life...

That's exactly what it means okie01. A fine shrimping season was just concluded here a few weeks ago. About the only good thing Hurrican Rita -- the one that clipped me here in Lafayette -- brought with her was an improvement in the shrimp harvest out of Vermillion Bay, which is just south of me, about 30 - 35 miles or so. I have a good friend who got into the mix of the shrimp harvest and for the first time in a long time, probably over fifteen years, I had fresh Louisiana white shrimp coming out of my ears. I did it all; etoufée, gumbo, sauce piquante, fried, stuffed, and more. I've been paying for that with my workouts since then, gotta make room for more down the road.

Wouldn't want to let all those fine shramps go to waste now, would we?

The things that FARC did in Colombia are appalling - and 100% typical of leftist strategy.

I think you're right and that the destruction of the Mexican economy will be the next objective of AMLO if he can't manage to steal the presidency.

A quick note to you livius, seeing as how you can read Spanish -- I'm shifting gears a bit here -- I just found a very insightful Mexican blog entitled "Madness" (La Locura) on Lopez Obrador's popularity at:

http://mexicoenpeligro.blogspot.com/

I'm just about to sit down and start translating this thing because I've Googled a few of the things this blogger, Ezra Shabot, points out and they are up on the web, including a video of a Lopez Obrador campaign team member accepting a bribe last January -- see http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-8546671566610644042 for more. I'm going to post this as a translation tomorrow. I think the guy writes really well and his insights are spot on the mark. I really like this site by the way. They are at least three very good Mexican bloggers posting there and they are no dummies. They're very good. Check it out.

Thanks! You're right, it's an excellent blog, full of good analysis. I was thinking how odd it is that we in the US generally have so little awareness of what is going on in Mexico. Granted, it's a complicated situation, but certainly, as the bloggers point out, it didn't come out of nowhere and the conditions for it have been building for years.

Here's the kind of Mexico we can expect if ObraGore gets to take over...it's an exposé on corruption in the Chavez government down in oil-rich, anti-American Venezuela:
