I guess I had been named Starchild, I'd go by Abraham, too.

I very much doubt that's what the department is truly interested in.

He chose instead to go on a sugar-free, organic diet and take herbal supplements under the supervision of a clinic in Mexico.Did he choose a casket as well? Better get moving Abe, you`ve all but guaranteed your death.

You can bring a horse to water but you cant make it drink.
I'm sure the Mexican treatment will cure him, and he will no longer be a burden on the buyers of health insurance policies.

If it turns out this young man has only a short time left to him, it would not reflect well on our legal system if he had to spend most of that time arguing with lawyers and judges.

Well, if a 16 year old girl has the right to an abortion, then a 16 year old boy ought to be able to refuse chemotherapy. Same arguements apply.

The original judge's order was ridiculous in ordering the parents to consent to the treatment. Such consents usually help mitigate against lawsuits in the event of disastrous results. Were I Abraham's parents, in the face of a court order requiring my consent I should withhold it and inform the physicians and the judge they would be held personally responsible in the event the treatment caused harm, discomfort or failed in its cure.
Abraham might fare better if he were to go to an alternate court and file to become an emancipated minor, so he would be free to act in his own best interest.

This is wonderful. Parents have the authority with their child not the state.
If the state is going to be this outrageous action against parents...what alternate do parents have? I have a few ideas...

Lance Armstrong (born September 18, 1971) is a retired American professional road racing cyclist. He is most famous for winning the Tour de France
a record seven consecutive times from 1999 to 2005. These amazing feats were accomplished several years after
brain and testicular surgery, and extensive chemotherapy in 1996, to treat testicular cancer that had metastasized to his
brain and lungs.Maybe "Starchild" and his a-hole hippie parents should ask Lance if he regrets not taking the "herbal" route in Mexico instead of Chemo.

Suppose this happened to you.
You're diagnosed with cancer and the doctor tells you, "If you take this treatment there's a 75% chance that you'll be cured, but there is a 100% chance that you'll be sick for half the year from the treatment.
You put up with the hell of the treatment and the doctor says, "The cancer is back and this time if you take the treatment there's only a 50% chance you'll be cured but still the 100% chance that you'll be sick for half a year from the treatment.
Do you take the chance again with the treatment knowing that it's possible you could live for another year in pain and misery before you die, or refuse treatment and try to accomplish what you can and enjoy as much as possible of whatever time you may have left?

No, what the department is interested in is that the sheeple bow down and worship it instead of taking every last one of these maggots out and hanging them.
Starting with their lawyers.

Kid should sue his parents for giving him a dopey name.
That is only OK for extremely rich movie stars who can ensure they won't want for their entire life (and can afford private tutoring).

"What the department is interested in is this young man being cured of cancer," Bundick said.
What the department is too lame to understand is once you have gone into remission and then had a re-occurance of the same kind of cancer you were diagnosed with, you CANNOT be cured. You can go into remission again, but you are chronic or in treatment, not cured. Not only that, but once you've gone thru chemo the first time, each successive time you go thru chemo its less effective. My oncologist treated me for Stage 3 Ductal (breast cancer) I am at this point considered cured because of how I responded to the treatment, the length of time since threatment and the non ablility of the labs in getting my tumor to grow (once they removed it)(that is just one of the ways they decide on how to proceed with treatment btw)
The fact that they have someone so totally uninterested and uneducated in the very basics of Cancer treatment trying to put out that 'they' know and want what 'they' think is best for this young man, sickens and frightens me.
I'm praying for this young man, and that the government would stay out of his healtcare choices.
To: freespirited
All this stress is doing that young man no good at all.
Prayers up for him.
My own hubby stopped his chemo after four treatments and would not continue under any circumstances.
