Despite the Re-Engagement War, 650 French Jews arrived on Aliyah (immigrating to Israel) Tuesday - the largest number to arrive in a single day since 1971.
The new immigrants arrived on two chartered Israir flights, one with 500 passengers from Paris and the other with 150 Jews from Marseille. They arrive in Ben Gurion Airport Tuesday afternoon and were greeted by Prime Minister Ehud Olmert.
The immigrants have received logistical assistance from AMI - the French Aliyah organization, similar to its North American (and British) counterpart Nefesh b'Nefesh.
Similar to the lavish ceremonies organized by Nefesh b'Nefesh, the French arrivals were greeted with refreshments and a large stage set up at the airport, with hundreds of friends, relatives and Aliyah enthusiasts on hand to greet them.
AMI reports that many of the new immigrants will be moving to northern Israel, and like the planeload of North Americans that arrived last week, refused to postpone their plans due to the two-front war that has two million Israelis living in bomb shelters and temporary quarters.
Recent polls have shown that more half of young French Jews do not see themselves staying in France in the future.
Shows how bad things are getting in France...
No doubt that they are safer in Israel than they were in Occupied France. ;-)
About 250 Americans moved to Israel last week. Was very heartening to see.
It's kind of telling that these people thought they could have a better life in a country surrounded by the most vicious enemies imaginable than they could have had in France.
Unlike "Fwaaance", the Israeli government will do something about muslims who don't know how to act, and once they are officially Israeli citizens, they'll be able to shoot back too!
Wonderful.
I think it shows courage... above all.
The whole world is focused on Israel. "Salvation is of the Jews".

(Go Israel, Go! Slap 'Em Down Hezbullies.)
They will be safer int he long run. I would hate to be a Jew in the Islamic Republic Of Northern Algeria when the mullahs take over.
should do wonders for improving the Israeli food scene..
True.
The French certainly showed they could round up Jews to serve their German overlords faster than any other country.
Only thing they are efficient at, I think.
There ARE great kosher Chinese restaurants in Israel.
And sushi, for that matter.
Always thought that very odd.
Great. They can teach the IDF the finer points of surrender.

A jew living in France isn't much different than one living in Gaza. Those young people are smart. France will have a Islam majority in the near future and we'll very likely witness the end of Europe as a rational democratic region.
I think this is the group I heard on online radio from Israel. A FReeper posted some Israeli media sites and I found a radio station that broadcast in English.
That evening they had an onboard reporter talking to the trip's leader and folks on the plane. In the midst of war, they were making aliya and happy to do so. It was great listening to the excitement as they got closer to Israel. When the plane landed, they were greeted with music and singers. It was wonderful 'theater of the mind.'
Hate to point this out, but this is also something the Bible talks about - the diaspora returning from all the corners of the Earth.
When you read it, you sort of wonder what the circumstances would be that would prompt such a thing occuring. Doubly curious given they are moving from France, which while being populated by self-centered, narrow-minded has-beens, is still a scenic place to break camp.
So, they move from France and choose to move back to Israel. Not just Israel, but Northern Israel, which is essentially a war zone.
Not a chance anything divine at work here. Anyone might do the very same thing, right?
Sharon definitely helped call the Jewish people back to their land. But, he was a tool, many of these people have an urge to move, which I feel is a divine calling, God pulling on their hearts, and it is fulfilling prophecy.
