'Peace Prize' winner would kill Bush Gets round of applause from Australian schoolchildren

A woman who won the Nobel Peace Prize 30 years ago drew applause from Australian schoolchildren today by saying she'd like to kill President Bush.

"I have a very hard time with this word 'non-violence,' because I don't believe that I am non-violent," said Betty Williams, 64, according to the Australian newspaper. "Right now, I would love to kill George Bush."

The audience at Brisbane City Hall – mostly schoolchildren – clapped and cheered, the paper said. The event was the Earth Dialogues forum.

"I don't know how I ever got a Nobel Peace Prize, because when I see children die the anger in me is just beyond belief. It's our duty as human beings, whatever age we are, to become the protectors of human life."

Williams was awarded the prize for circulating a petition to end violence in Northern Ireland after witnessing British soldiers shoot dead a member of the Irish Republican Army. The IRA member veered on to a footpath, killing two children from one family instantly and fatally injuring a third.

The former receptionist now heads the World Centers of Compassion for Children International, a non-profit group working to create a political voice for children.

Wrapping up the three-day forum yesterday, delegates agreed to a 26-point action plan, the Australian reported.

"There can be no sustainable peace while the majority of the world's population lives in poverty," they said. "There can be no sustainable peace if we fail to rise to the global challenge presented by climate change. There can be no sustainable peace while military spending takes precedence over human development."

"Can the Nobel Committee vote to strip the winner of her award?"

Get real, she probably just got herself another nomination.

Let's see. . .if this were Ann Coulter. . .

But, of course, she is Betty Williams. . .so we know she ONLY meant this as a gentle chastising born of war-weary frustration - no more than a 'manner of speaking'; and certainly NOT, meant to be taken literally. . .

I mean she stands as a 'protector of life' . . .right?

Are you kidding? After her comments she'd probably be nominated again.

Not to mention the murdering terrorist from the false state of Palestine.Arafat the murderer got a peace prize for murdering Jewish Israeli's and the left applauded him.
What a day we live in.

Sounds like the Nobel Committee's judgment is getting worse and worse

Why would anyone think it was ever sound in the first place?

"Right now, I would love to kill George Bush."

Nobody could accuse her of being a CLASS ACT.

Die appropriately of a virulent combination of leprosy and AIDS, definitely; be assassinated, never.

One would wish that such critical information would be included in a report that includes the event as a matter of fact and credentials.

By 1976 the Prize was already pretty worthless. If the entire truth was reported they run the risk of the truth not clouding what they want to come.... On August 10, 1976, a getaway car bearing an IRA gunman lost control when its driver was fatally shot by pursuing British soldiers. The careening car slammed into Anne Maguire and her three young children ....

According to wikipedia the prize is about $1.3 US.

I wonder if Alfred Nobel is spinning, and if he would just like to blow-up the whole charade.

I don't have the exact figures, but the child mortality rates in Iraq before the US went in was tens of thousands higher than what it is now. Therefore by the US going in to Iraq and removing the Sadam tens of thousands of lives are being saved. Children are now getting the medicine they needed. Sadam was using the money to build mansions instead of medicine and food for his people.

I'm not suprised though, the left loves dictators. History will show that the US going into Iraq was the right thing to do.

When Clinton had his heart attack, I kinda held my breath thinking maybe God was going to take care of one American scourge, but that's as close as I came to even hoping

Pinter won last year for lit. and gave a totally anti-American speech.

I think he too wants to kill Bush, but he's too gutless to say it.
