US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice salutes a US Marine as she walks towards a helicopter upon her departure from Beirut after meeting with Lebanese officials.
-snip-Notwithstanding her achievements, her career was increasingly surrounded by scandal over time. In 1991, it became clear that she had written numerous overdraft checks at the House Bank.
Though four-fifths of all members of Congress had at least one overdraft, she had over 200, more than all but a few members.
This was due to the fact that the House Bank was not a financial institution in the legal sense, and it permitted its members to do this without penalty.
In 1992, her district was renumbered the 10th and redrawn to include more Republicans, though it was still heavily Democratic. Oakar withstood a challenge from Tim Hagan in the Democratic primary - Hagan had been endorsed by Cleveland Mayor Michael R. White - but lost to Martin Hoke in the general election.
Oakar was charged in 1993 with making false financial disclosures in a case related to the House banking scandal. The case dragged on for years, and she finally pled guilty to violating campaign finance laws, a misdemeanor. She did, however, win a 1999 settlement against The Plain Dealer for libel.
LOL fortunately shep's name didnt even come up. heidi(?) in Haifa was doing the talking. It was pretty quick. JUst though it might be of interest to those who watch them every day. no big deal.

Here is an article and thread about it:
this UN thing is not good. forget for a moment that the UN, as an organization, is useless. I am not even sure why they didn't close this observation post.
But still, its not good, and its a mistake on israel's part, unless they can show that the post was being used to assist hezbollah in some way. if true, they had better make that claim fast.
in many ways - the end game for this war will be shaped by which side makes "mistakes" - and this is a not good, it may cost israel time, time that they need to complete this attack.
I think that's a garbled translation of this story:

The Saudis have F16's in Tabouk, and have said they intend to leave them there.
Thanks for the clarification
Well, don't let that fool you. You know how there are liberal jews in NY and many that are so left they forget they are Jewish? Well, there are those that think like that in Cleveland too....and I'm sure they are all great buddies with Mary Rose.
just popping in for a sec -
Go Laura!!
LOL!!
EH!
;-)
This is bizarre beyond words. But not surprising. They have found that the Achilles heel of the US is our judiciary, and that's obviously going to be a main point of attack.
LOL!

My nephew's air guard unit was stationed at Tabuk in the early months of the Iraq war.
Just saw on CNN that the US is sending more soldiers to Baghdad to try to clean it up.

Well, yeah, except for the part where they flew in and out of Baghdad.
Gah, I missed Laura while I was typing this...
