I can see why. I just heard a campaign speech by a conservative candidate here where he practically foamed at the mouth with his hatred of Hispanics and Spanish culture. The man was ignorant and bigoted. Hispanics immigrants are under a lot of pressure from the left - the Ford Foundation puts millions of dollars into getting Latin Americans to accept abortion and homosexuality, for example - and we put no money or effort whatsoever into winning them to our side.

Like all immigrant groups, they are the prey of the Democratic party. Why? Because we have made little or no effort to convince them of our views, and because the Dems immediately start to drag them into the victim/entitlement mentality that the Dems have used so effectively to corral blacks.

Frankly, I have been disgusted with some of the vitriolic, ugly anti-Hispanic ravings I have heard from conservatives who supposedly want to bring everybody together into their vision of America. Well, obviously, not quite everybody.

I disagree that we havent courted them and our views, its just that we have equal or greater pressure from the right that 'sounds' anti-hispanic, after all, if you are correct and we havent made much effort, did we get such a large number in 2004 to vote for us?

Bush won 44 percent of the Hispanic vote in 2004.

If you don't count California, where the Left has co-opted Hispanics most effectively, the number is more like 50 percent.

Wake up and smell the coffee! It is illegal immigration that we are against. The importation of this third world invasion is only going to hurt this country. Many of the Latino immigrants do not want to assimilate into our culture. They refuse to speak our language, bleed our social system, committ an enormous amount of crime, etc... We have a mayor in LA, who is a former gang member and member of MECHA, who claims that Latinos are in a civil war to recapture the southwest.

There is NO group of immigrants that can be brought into this country, and have them turn down free education, healthcare, foodstamps, AFDC, WIC, SSI, or HUD loans. HELLO, humans are corrupt and ultimately corruptible. We need to get a handle on the federal govts handouts, and the way to do that is NOT to welcome invaders from ANY OTHER country. We need a border fence, along both borders. We need to jail any and all here illegaly. Give them the option of leaving the country. Fix the law that makes a trespassers baby a citizen, and control the number and type of immigrant.

Now that we have stopped the bleeding, we cut off the social net, return to the Constitutional limits. Simply put, we either do so, or we die as a nation.

Golly, I'm glad you (politically) corrected us, I had forgotten the fault is America's. Please tax me and make it all better.

And spank me hard, please.

One small modification, but an important one. The subject is not Hispanic immigrants, but rather, illegal immigrants, most of whom are Hispanic.

Ah. It's all the fault of the Dems. No personal responsibility of those actually engaging in high-risk behaviors.

I've gotten disgusted with some of the La Raza rhetoric, myself. But I don't use that as a brush to pain all Hispanics, whereas you seem to be trying to paint the entire anti-illegal movement as bigots.

The Democrats do a good job of dividing people along racial and ethnic lines, and convincing them to vote as a bloc. Politicians like the one you refer to play right into their hands, they are playing the Democrats game. They are terribly destructive, suicidal even on more than one level.

We should always keep our focus on our unifying principles, we should never engage in ethnic politics, both because it violates our core principles and because you can never out-Democrat a Democrat.

Classic liberalism, American style conservatism, the philosophical underpinnings of the Republican party are ideas that have to be transmitted from person to person, from generation to generation. We've already handicapped ourselves, all of the organs that transmit ideas into the culture are in our enemies' hands, the schools, the news media, Hollywood, and while we worry about "barbarians" swarming across the border, we graduate hordes of barbarians every year who have been educated by our enemies.

And we wonder why we can barely manage 50% at the polls.

The Democrats use ethnicity to shut down debate. If we play their game we lose. We have to keep our focus on principle, we have to learn how to communicate those ideas to people who have never heard them, not only because they are new to the country but to people who have been educated by our opponents, which is to say, 99% of everyone graduated from public schools. If we can't explain ourselves to hispanics, to blacks, to public school graduates, we've won our last election.

When Democrats look at America, they see an ethnic patch-work quilt that can be manipulated according to race. When Republicans look at America, they just see two colors, red and blue, the people who "get it" and the people who don't. We should insist as we always have on color-blind politics, color-blind citizenship, keep the focus on principle, because thats who we are, because if we play ethnic politics we'll lose to the people who are masters at it, and because if we go down that road we've lost our souls.

If we want to preserve our country we have several things we have to do post-haste. We have to secure the borders. We have to get control of the schools. We have to build alternatives to the corrupted information media. But we have to keep our focus on principle, and leave ethnic pandering to our enemies. If we do that, we won't get every hispanic, or black, or white to vote for us. We'll get the ones who "get it", though, and those are the ones we want.

..... disgusted with some of the vitriolic, ugly anti-Hispanic ravings I have heard from conservatives.

Ah, for the good old days, when the true conservatives of America, all 11 of them, would meet on the poop deck of the old Cyrano for cocktails while Fernando Valenti harpsichorded his way through some Bach and Corelli.

Unfortunately, in order to win an election or two, the Republicans had to reach out to some mighty unfashionable folks, most of whom clearly used to be Democrats. That would be it for GOP "outreach," and who could blame them?

Nowadays, if one wishes to join Republicans, one must figure it out for oneself and seek them out. So far, the only outreach to Hispanics has been to let them know in unspoken ways that their illegal entry to the country is welcomed. Once they're here, of course, the only people who'll talk to them are the Democrats, who promise, and deliver, the moon.

Surprise, surprise! They vote 70% Democrat, a whole lot of the time doing without the legal nicety of citizenship.

Gee, I wonder why hispanics are seen as the number one type of illegal?

I know alot of Hispanics, since I've lived most of my life in the southwest, and now live in S. FL. I think their politics seem to cut across socioeconomic rather than racial lines. Most of the Hispanics I have known who were upper middle class and upward were more conservative. The poorer ones were more democrat supporting. Of course, since illegal aliens are by and large poor, I don't see how we can win them over, unless of course the money you suggest we spend is in social welfare....
And no, I'm not racist. I'm realistic.
