LOS ANGELES - Peace reigns at least at the Miss Universe 2006 contest, where beauties Miss Lebanon and Miss Israel are the "best of friends" despite the bloody fighting between the two countries back home, their companions said.
Even as Israel has bombarded Lebanon in the wake of a missile barrage by the Hezbollah militia in the country's south, the two women -- Gabrielle Bou Rached of Lebanon and Israel's Anastacia Entin -- have struck up a friendship ahead of Sunday's tough competition to see who is named the world's most beautiful woman.
"I think the perpetrators of the current Middle East crisis could learn a few lessons from Miss Lebanon and Miss Israel, who are the best of friends here," said Miss Germany Natalia Ackerman.
The contest doesn't allow much room for warring, with contestants from 86 countries this year all crammed into the same Los Angeles hotel for a month with a rigorous schedule of rehearsals for the show. Mostly in their early twenties, the women become friends mainly based on geographic nearness and shared languages.
Entin and Rached have been pulled together by the force of shared cultures, whatever is happening back home, smiling, posing for pictures together, even though Rached's presence sparked a protest by some 20 Lebanese Muslims Wednesday in front of the downtown Los Angeles hotel.

Oh no. I just ate. :-(
Where in Kentucky did you grow up? I grew up on the Kentucky/West Virginia border and there were several Lebanese and Syrian families on both sides of the border. They were all members of my parish. I absolutely loved the Lenten dinners because of the wonderful foods these folks would bring. They too were pillars of the community and good merchants.
Hmmm... a blond AND a brunette... Trajan88 will sacrifice himself and get these two ladies together to make an Oreo cookie sandwich ;-)
LOL. Seems you would have had a little too much lust in your heart for it. The union of this cousin who had English, Scots, and Canadian roots (blond, blue-eyed) with the mother, produced a child with the lustrous dark hair, long dark eyelashes, and golden tan skin of the mother, but with bright blue eyes. Extremely stunning. Not only that, but the child had a high IQ.
Where is Miss North Korea? Where is Miss Iran? Where is Miss Saudi Arabia?
"us men will be distracted by God's best creations."
Auld Nature swears the lovely dears
Her noblest work she classes-oh
Her 'prentice hand she tried on Man
And then She made the Lasses-oh
I'm sorry, but this isn't a matter of opinion, any more than someone asserting that a ball-bearing closely resembles a needle-bearing. Different shapes and geometries (and the bones comprising them) are not subject to opinion: they simply exist. to wit:
nose, brow, jawline, cheekbones, chin, cleft, width-to-height proportions (established by scaling and then aligning eyes and mouth as datum features)... all grossly dissimilar.
and I asked you nicely not to make me do this.
Miss Trinidad/Tobago has a simply winning smile!
These gals are all gorgeous, this might be one beauty contest worth watching.
Hubby and I had this dubious pleasure of watching the MRs. World contest (whatever it was) where they totally messed up the crowning. Before that we watched some USA only contest (NOT Miss America) and those gals were pretty underwhelming beauty-wise.
My bad, those are Lesbians (Dykes on Bikes).
These threads are about as multicultural as 'ol Flagg can get these days.
Please keep 'em coming. The universe is a big place.
And it's gonna be a long night here at work.
Lol. That's hideous.
I'm sorry, but I put a piece of paper over the bottom of Miss Brazil's chin, and took a poll here, and 2 others agree. Without the long chin, she's very attractive and looks like Suzanne Pleshette.
Ungawa!
Miss North Korea is on the verge of starvation and couldn't make it, while Miss Iran and Miss Saudi Arabia were, sadly, murdered by their brothers to defend the "honor" of their families....
