This is not a surprise. I'm quite disturbed with Israel's disproportional response.

This is the problem with modern notions of war. When someone commits an act of war against you, there is no such thing as a disproportionate response. The appropriate response is to render them incapable of continuing the war.

The notion that a nation will be held at bay because of the worries of a "disproportionate response" is what allows these attacks to be mounted. The attacker does not need to fear that he will be destroyed. He can attack, the attacked will be restrained, and he can hit again another day.

Trying to hold an attacked nation to "an appropriate response" just encourages aggression.

Here are some interesting images. The first is of a broken store front window with a photo of Hezbollah leader Nasrallah. The store is located in South Beirut. A city that was sold out by the national government that was taken over by Syria and Hezbollah. Symbolic isn't it.

The other photo is of what used to be the Hezbollah stronghold in Beirut. After it was targeted by Israeli air strikes. [More Photos?] Now just smoking ruins.
