After 2 years, same-sex marriage icons split up (Bush's fault)
Boston Globe ^ | July 21, 2006 | Michael Levenson

They told the world that their relationship was like any other and that's why they should be allowed to marry. Now, friends say, they are showing once again that they are just like any other couple: Two years after getting married, Julie and Hillary Goodridge, lead plaintiffs in the state's landmark gay marriage case, are splitting.

Mary Breslauer, a spokeswoman for the couple, confirmed the separation last night. She said the couple are focused now on trying to do what is best for their daughter, Annie, 10.

``Julie and Hillary Goodridge are amicably living apart," Breslauer said in a telephone interview. ``As always their number one priority is raising their daughter, and like the other plaintiff couples in this case, they made an enormous contribution toward equal marriage. But they are no longer in the public eye, and request that their privacy be respected."

Breslauer said they have not filed for divorce. She would not comment on their plans and offered no other details.

Supporters of gay marriage had cast them as the face of their cause: happily together for two decades, financially stable, loving parents, and in 2004, able to legally wed. Julie Goodridge, 49, is president of NorthStar Asset Management, an investment advisory firm, and Hillary, 50, is program director for the Unitarian Universalist Funding Program.

``I just think this really doesn't say anything," Breslaeur said yesterday when asked by a reporter about the significance of the separation. ``Our families, like other families, can face tough times, with many making it through those moments, but some not."

Since gay marriage was legalized in Massachusetts in May 2004, about 7,300 same - sex couples have obtained licenses, according to a Globe survey earlier this year. There have been about 45 divorces; the number of separations has

Strange, isn't it? All that time together, and then, after they wed, it's Splittsville. I'm sure there's an explanation for why this happens so frequently, but I'm at a loss to grock it.

In the case of the couple I knew, the wife decided after getting married that she never had a chance to "sow her wild oats" after marrying the man whom she had been with since high school. He was devastated.

Two words: Koufax, Drysdale.

Sandy and "Dandy" Don?

..it isn't too surprising that gay and lesbian marriages should suffer divorces in a way that is similar to straight marriages.

I should think there would be host of significant differences. I have read that homosexual "monogamy" is somewhat of a misnomer.

One would think that the participants in this "show" marriage would have made every effort for homo-political reasons to stay together. Clearly staying together "for the child" wasn't important enough. Since there was no "father", divorce really doesn't change the dynamic much.

I'm a lesbian trapped in a man's body.

I am a gay man trapped in a woman's body. My partner is a male lesbian.

There are a lot of us on FR. Only here can we come out of the closet.

Reasons for the break up...

One of them was a carpenter that liked to get up at the crack of dawn. She got tired of laying carpet and decided to get into gardening where she now is happy trimming bushes and hosing lawns. The trouble began when the other decided to become a chef where her specialties include tacos, biscuits, pies, and peach tarts. The first woman became jealous when she discovered that one of the staff working for her partner declared her food to be "finger licking good." From then on the relationship was never the same.

According to Tammy, Larry Elder at a party tried to get her to switch sides. "Come on, Tammy, just give me one night!"

In my opinion, the real world could care less. The "potential" that this supposed marriage had to benefit society was zero and as such nothing happened as far as society is concerned.

So who's the father of the child?
I feel so bad for the kids stuck in these horrible situations. Custody is a no-brainer here since only one can be the real mother.

And here I thought Larry was in the closet...he's never, ever made mention of dating or wimmins in his life - at least on the air. (I wonder if he made the same offer to Super Glo)

Oh no, Larry is very hetero!! And very into women! I don't know if he has a main squeeze right now or not, though. And I have met him with SuperGlo -- she is NOT NOT NOT his type (I am not sure whose type she IS). I once heard Larry actually ask his listening audience for dates. I remember exactly what exit I was on when he said that. And during the OJ trial, he told us that if, when on a date, the lady thought OJ was innocent, the evening wasn't going too far.

When the House cannot even define historical, traditional, cultural marriage, no wonder these people are fouled up. Oh and it is Bush's fault!!!!!!!!!!!!! Or maybe Reagan's. I cannot remember how the feministLeft thinks anymore. They are so convoluted and inane.
