Bush and Rice will meet at the White House Sunday with Saudi Foreign Minister Saud al-Faisal and Prince Bandar bin Sultan, chief of the Saudi National Security Council.
The plans emerged following two days of meetings in New York with United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan and envoys he sent to the region this week. Although Annan called Thursday for an immediate cease-fire, that is opposed by the United States. The Bush administration says the United States and the U.N. agree on the wider diplomatic goals for the region.
The United States has resisted international pressure to lean on its ally Israel to halt the fighting. Rice was likely try to point the way to a relatively quick cease-fire, but not an immediate one. She is expected in Israel on Tuesday, Israeli officials said on condition of anonymity because the schedule was not yet confirmed.
Rice is also expected to meet with European foreign ministers and representatives from Arab nations that have been unusually critical of Hezbollah. That meeting would take place somewhere in the Mideast, but the location is not set.
Rice's mission would be the first U.S. diplomatic effort on the ground since the Israeli onslaught against Lebanon began.
The Rice initiative likely would be designed to give the United States a major role in brokering peace there. She is not expected to try to get a signed deal during her brief visit, however, and she risks laying out the U.S. goals only to have either side refuse to bargain.
Here's a little news:

Did you see Bob Baer on Glen Beck's show? Beck went thorough a list of who would support us if this thing grows, at the end he (Beck) was a little green around the gills.
Long Live Israel .. Am Yisrael Chai
Is Fox gonna stay live, or is this just a quick update?
Yoni talked about the border in the third hr., the second hr. was when he mentioned the missiles and he did talk about Bekaa valley but I was outside and didn't hear it all.
Also, the Lebanese President has declared that the Leb Army will come against Israeli forces if and when they come in on the ground.
HillaryandOprah = the two-headed anti-Christ.
didn't know that they were live..I was watching Andersen Cooper...Fox has had canned programming at night so I haven't bothered...
Hugh Hewitt asked yoni tonight about WMDs..and yoni said it was something they prepare for and plan for if necessary, but they don't talk about it....very interesting.
I SO wish there was a way that the US could go into the Bekaa and look around.
If the "international force" can replace the Israelis fast enough, everyone will be able to "save face".
I heard that also.
Thank you, sofaman!
Hashem Barech Yisrael!
I wouldn't be surprised if we do...once the Israelis are there, I have no doubt that we will.
No...I didn't see Beck's show, I always forget to watch.
Why was Glenn green around the gills?
