Murtha votes against
protecting the
Pledge of Allegiance

The U.S. House of Representatives voted yesterday to protect the phrase "one nation, under God' in the Pledge of Allegiance. But the vote was not unanimous. A final tally showed 260 'ayes' to 167 'nays.'

Included in the 'nay' group: Pennsylvania's Rep. John Murtha. [Roll Call final vote results: click]

[EXCERPT:]

The U.S. House voted to bar most federal courts from hearing cases challenging the constitutionality of the pledge of allegiance, a measure supporters said was needed to prevent judges from scrapping the pledge's reference to God.

The chamber voted 260 to 167 to approve legislation that would strip most federal courts, including the Supreme Court, of the right to take cases challenging the pledge's reference to ``one nation, under God'' as an unlawful government endorsement of religion.

I searched the Pennsylvania newspapers and did not find ANY reporting on Murtha's vote on this important issue. The past two Sundays have brought out the Murtha 'puff pieces' -- one in his hometown newspaper (July 9) and another in the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review (July 16).

Talk about free advertising! The rest of us have to pay to simply get these newspapers to print the truth about Murtha.

Vets For The Truth / BootMurtha.com wants to pop Murtha's puff bubble of there in Pennsylvania. Watch for our next 'Murtha Alert' for details. Coming to an e-mail box near you... SOON!!!

"I searched the Pennsylvania newspapers and did not find ANY reporting on Murtha's vote on this important issue."

The pledge issue is nothing more than pandering for votes. It's not important.

Well, if it's pandering for votes why doesn't this make the papers?

"Protecting the pledge?" Like protecting it from politically-driven *additions* that were made to it... such as, oh, I dunno... "under God?"

He's right ... it needs to be changed. Drop the comma and then it'll be correct.

"One nation under God ..."

Nope. Look at the Bloomberg article excerpt. It uses the comma. So do the other news reports on this vote.

Why would people vote for something THEY do not think is important?

This week we had a primary election in Georgia and about 20% of eligible voters bothered to cast a vote. I guess it wasn't IMPORTANT to them to do so.

Just because you do not think it is important does not mean it is not very important to other people.

I'm not a fan of Murtha, but this vote, as has been said above, is nothing more than political BS. "Under God" was not in the originial, and its insertions was, again, political BS.

This is a huge non-issue.

War in Iraq, war in Lebanon, missles in NoKo, nukes in Iran, and Congress decides that the issue that is in dire need of the most attention is... The Pledge of Allegiance.

And they wonder why we think that they're doing a terrible job. Bunch of fat-cat idiots pandering for another go-around at the public trough.

Your's and John Murtha's opinions aren't important either. But to most people the Pledge of Allegiance issue is symbolic of a much greater issue.

You're wrong.

This is one of the many thousand cuts of death to our Republic and America as a whole. Apparently you never heard of the "broken window" theory. When the little stuff goes, the opposition moves on to bigger things for the kill. Sometimes it's important to focus on what you perceive as small potatoes.
