Draza Mihailovich was born in 1893 in the small town of Ivanytza near Chachak, Serbia, Yugoslavia, where his father was a schoolmaster. In 1910 Mihailovich entered the Military Academy, but his studies were interrupted in 1912 when he took part in the SerboTurkish War as a Cadet-Corporal. Twice decorated for acts of bravery, he was promoted to Cadet- Sergeant and later to Second-Lieutenant in the Serbo- Bulgarian War, and participated in all operations.
When the First World War broke out in 1914, Mihailovich served with his regiment and was decorated several times. He particularly distinguished himself in an action in September, 1918 near Shtip and was promoted to First-Lieutenant and decorated with the White Eagle.
After the armistice, Mihailovich resumed his military studies. In 1929 he took a six months' course in the French Army. Promoted to Staff Offficer, then professor of tactics at the Higher College of the Military Academy, he was appointed Military Attache first in Soffa and subsequently in Prague.
On the eve of the present war, Mihailovich submitted a report to the Yugoslav General Staff in which he forecast almost everything that took place in April, 1941. He was of the opinion that the idea of defending practically indefensible Northern frontiers should be abandoned and proposed concentrating all forces in mountainous regions where the overwhelming superiority of the German tanks would be ineffectual. Hewroteabook on guerrilla warfare which secured him a considerable following.
At the time that war broke out Colonel Mihailovich was Chief of Staff of a motorised division in Doboy, a small town in Bosnia. When capitulation was ordered by General Simovich without the knowledge of the Yugoslav Government, he refused to accept it and resolved to try to break through with chosen troops in the direction of Eastern Bosnia and Serbia, where he hoped to find an established front, and to join up with the regular army. On the way there he and his men were attacked by strong German formations, which, after fierce fighting, routed the troops; the commander of the small tank formation was taken prisoner, while Mihailovich was forced to withdraw into the hills.
Asked whether he had heard anything about the capitulation, Mihailovich answered:
"Capitulation ? I do not know what capitulation is. l have served in the army for many years, but I have never heard this word."
And by the way, seems like their throwing their money away, given Hillary's lack of competition. Then again, I think celebs at this level bet $2000 on one hand of poker. It's not a lot of money to them.
Looks like a bad day at the watering hole. Amazing that people will attack an educated, intelligent person like Condi for example--and still pay to watch garbage.
Rice was hired for her first academic position by Stanford University as an Assistant Professor in Political Science (19811987). She was granted tenure and promoted, first to Associate Professor (1987-1993), and then (she was off-campus from 1989-1991) to Provost (the chief budget and academic officer of the university) and full Professor (1993-July 2000). [18] She was also named a Senior Fellow of the Institute for International Studies, and a Senior Fellow (by courtesy) of the Hoover Institution. She was a specialist on the former Soviet Union and gave lectures on the subject for the Berkeley-Stanford joint program led by UC Berkeley Professor George Breslauer in the mid-1980s. She also was an avid reader of Tolstoy and Dostoevsky, and reportedly once told a friend she leaned toward the latter in her world view. She was said to be quietly cerebral, friendly but decorous, and popular among students. Friends and co-workers often saw her exercising in the gym or serving breakfast to undergraduates at Midnight Breakfast, a Stanford tradition during final exams.
As Stanford's Provost, Dr. Rice was responsible for managing the university's multi-billion dollar budget. The school at that time was over $20,000,000 in debt. When Rice took office, she promised that the budget deficit would be balanced within "two years". Says Coit Blacker, Stanford's deputy director of the Institute for International Studies, "There was a sort of conventional wisdom that said it couldn't be done . . . that [the deficit] was structural, that we just had to live with it." Two years later, Rice convened a meeting to announce that not only had the deficit been balanced, but the university was holding a record surplus of over $14,500,000
Mihailovich-----A great man...I see his likeness when I visit Serbian Orthodox christian churches and wonder what if.
Owen hangs out with Vince Vaughn who is a Republican (or at least isn't a whacky lefty), so he doesn't seem like the type to be a hater. He also doesn't seem the type to really be all that "involved" in politics. It wouldn't surprise me if a lot of donations are just peer pressure...hey write a check and stay on so and so's good side.
I bet there are a LOT of closeted people who may not necessarily be conservative completely, but aren't hollyweird lib who either keep their mouths shut or even scratch a check at a power players party just to NOT be blackballed. Whether that's Owen or not I dunno, but there is an interview where he talks about his and Vaughn's politics and it wasn't a big deal to him. What I hate more than anything is people who don't allow other views.
When Mr. Clinton was making headlines, Tom Hanks was quoted as saying he was sorry he gave 10,000. Shortly thereafter, Hanks said he was sorry he didn't give 20,000.
LOL!
Please FReepmail me if you want on or off my miscellaneous ping list.
More of Pellicano's guys are going to get arrested. Pellicano is friendly with various people suspected of belonging to the Mafia like Ronald "Ronnie" Lorenzo, who owns a pizza place in Brentwood and the restaurant Splash in Malibu. Ronnie, who's spent ten years in prison, is suspected to be the main Los Angeles player in the Bonnano family. Ronnie is best friends with actor James Caan and actor Frank Sivero. Sivero is a real hood. He used to collect money for Joe Isgro.
There are videotapes of Sivero with Ronnie Lorenzo and porn star Tabitha Stevens.
James Caan offered his home as collateral toward the $2-million bail for Lorenzo and appeared as a character witness for his dear friend.

Movie stars I will never see again.
Who cares really? I don't look to Tom Hanks when I vote or give money. I only look to him as a talented actor. I really don't see myself getting very worked up over what he does with his money.
Marla Maples? I knew she was stu[p[id, but I didn't know she was still around....
These celebrities have the right, like anyone else, to give to whatever charity/politican they wish. I can't really argue against it.
What bothers me is more their exploitation of their celebrity status to endorse a cause or candidate. Somehow reading off a script in front of a camera & having a platoon of stylists, PR, nannies, etc. makes you a political maven.
Bump for later reference - good info!
"I'm proud to be an American, where at least I know I'm free."
What's this "at least" crap? Always sounded like he was selling America short.
"communists..............."
...and elitists. These people don't have to live with the consequences of their policies.
"That's okay, they're not doing it on my dime any longer. At least not full price. I seldom see a movie in the theaters anymore. I tape them in wide screen format off our cable service, or buy them 3 for twenty bucks if I can't."
Try Slysoft's AnyDVD ripper, or DVDshrink, to get around DVD encryption. I don't give these people money beyond what it costs to rent a DVD. I don't copies anymore.
Never liked any of 'em anyway.
